Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He Will Return To Terminator Franchise, Gives Us Some More Information About The Revival

Geez. Things are moving fast with this scheduled ‘Terminator‘ revival, and that’s a bit surprising because James Cameron is involved, and he usually doesn’t work fast.

As we mentioned last month, James Cameron will regain his rights to the Terminator franchise in late 2018, and he’s been planning something big with current rights holder David Ellison. They want to bring back the franchise in a big way. A new Terminator trilogy.

And it looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning. The 70-year-old actor talked to The Playlist, and he revealed that shooting could begin as early as March 2018.

“In March next year, I am shooting Terminator 6, James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board and then comes a Conan.”

It’s interesting he calls the project Terminator 6. Cameron’s comments from last month made it seem like this new trilogy would be the start of something new, but the fact that they’re calling it Terminator 6 makes us believe it will be a direct continuation of the franchise.

Hopefully more information is released soon. Will Arnold be the star of this movie? Or will it be a Rocky situation where he’s the old star fading out introducing us to someone new?

We’ll keep you posted.

James Cameron Has Big Plans For Terminator Franchise, Is Talking About Writing A New Trilogy To Bring Series Back To Life

James Cameron is a great filmmaker, but he doesn’t always commit 100% to his ideas. He loves to dream big. As some of you may remember, he pushed back the release of Avatar 2 earlier this year because he was also planning Avatar 3 and 4 at the same time.

He told the Toronto Star the following:

“Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2, we’re making Avatar 234, and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam.”

We don’t know exactly where he’s at with that whole process, but we do know he’s starting to turn his attention to the Terminator franchise. In 2018, the rights to the franchise will return to Cameron, and he’s already making plans to bring the series back to life.

While speaking with News.com.au, the 62-year-old director revealed he’s planning on making a new trilogy…

“The question is — has the franchise run its course or can it be freshened up? So I am in discussions with David Ellison, who is the current rights holder globally for the Terminator franchise and the rights in the US market revert to me under US copyright law in a year and a half, so he and I are talking about what we can do. Right now we are leaning toward doing a three-film arc and reinventing it.”

Can we just focus on one movie (and one franchise) at a time? Is that too much to ask?
