Indie filmmakers Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson gained a bit of a loyal following after the release of their 2017 sci-fi flick, The Endless. The movie received positive reviews from critics and was loved by people all over the world.
Now they’re coming back with their next film, Synchronic. The horror-thriller stars Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan.
When New Orleans paramedics and longtime best friends Steve (Mackie) and Dennis (Dornan) are called to a series of bizarre, gruesome accidents, they chalk it up to the mysterious new party drug found at the scene. But after Dennis’s oldest daughter suddenly disappears, Steve stumbles upon a terrifying truth about the supposed psychedelic that will challenge everything he knows about reality—and the flow of time itself.
Sounds pretty trippy, eh? The studio behind the film announced they planned on releasing it inside theaters this October, but Moorhead and Benson made it clear they did not agree with that decision.
We want to be very clear: at the time of writing this, we personally wouldn’t go to an indoor movie theater, so we can’t encourage you to. To us, this isn’t only about feeling safe in a theater, this is also about the scientific community indicating that enclosed spaces like movie theaters are still a hazard for spreading COVID-19 to others.
It’s a bold move by the filmmakers, basically telling people to not go watch their movie, but it’s a respectable admission. It honestly makes me want to support them more.
In any event, you can check out the trailer below, and if you like what you see, maybe check it out at a drive-in? Seems like the safest option.
