When Regina Hall is starring in a movie, chances are, it’s going to be incredibly funny. No one does comedy better than Hall, which is why we’re super excited for the upcoming film, Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.
The megachurch comedy, which co-stars the equally fantastic Sterling K. Brown, marks Adamma Ebo’s feature directorial debut. It’s based on her 2018 short of the same name.
The satire is centered on Trinitie Childs (Hall)—the proud first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, who together with her husband Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown), once served a congregation in the tens of thousands. But after a scandal forces their church to temporarily close, Trinitie and Lee-Curtis must reopen their church and rebuild their congregation to make the biggest comeback that commodified religion has ever seen.
I can 100% see both Hall and Brown knocking these roles out of the freaking park. It feels like such great casting.
The movie received glowing reviews coming out of the Sundance Film Festival. It’s scheduled to hit theaters and be released on Peacock on September 2, 2022.
