Several months before the first ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘ film was released, no one thought it would be getting a sequel. Heck, some people didn’t even think it’d be released.
This was all because of how Sonic looked in the first images. He had bizarre human-like features, which looked more frightening than inviting. After intense backlash, the studio pushed the release date back so they could redesign the cartoon.
And it worked. The film was a huge success, making over $300 million worldwide.
Now there is a sequel coming. Paramount announced that the upcoming sequel will be titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
They also dropped a new logo…
Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Catch #SonicMovie2 in theatres in 2022. pic.twitter.com/SlVk7fakp3

As you can see in the tweet above, the film is expected to drop in 2022. No exact release date has been announced, but at least we know the year.
And at least they’re not taking themselves too seriously. That’s a good sign. Just some quality entertainment. That’s all we need from Sonic.
