Chris Hemsworth Has Joined The All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot!

Director Paul Feig (The Heat, Bridesmaids) is committed to this expansive gender-swapping of Ghostbusters. We already know the all-male group from the original will be replaced with an all-female group in this new reboot.

And now we know Feig will continue the trend by replacing the original female receptionist played by Annie Potts with the manliest dude out there, Chris Hemsworth.

Feig announced the news on his Twitter account…

One thing is clear, this movie is going to be filled with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. You have Hemsworth, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. It’s obvious Chris doesn’t have as much experience in the comedy world as his costars; however, Feig has made it clear that this reboot won’t be all comedy.

He mentioned last year how he wanted to make people laugh, but also make sure they left the theater feeling a little bit scared…

Both [screenwriter Katie Dippold] and I are obsessed with how do we make comedy really scary? The sequel to ‘The Heat’ was going to be pretty scary and funny. Almost like in a ‘Silence of the Lambs’ type thing but funny. I think funny people in peril and in danger is one of the best forms of comedy, and I really like things to play very real while funny things are happening.

It’s definitely going to be interesting. Feig’s Ghostbusters will begin filming this summer and is currently scheduled to be released July 22, 2016.
