While most studios are solely focused on sequels/remakes, Pixar has been out here taking chances. After the release of Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 in 2018/2019, the studio has been focused on original material.
They released Onward and Soul in 2020, both original films. And their next feature, Luca, is also an original idea.
The original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.
This film was directed by Enrico Casarosa, and he told reporters that this story is deeply personal for him, because he’s also a sea monster from another world.
No, really. It’s a personal story for him because it’s set in the Italian Riviera, where he grew up.
This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca.
Pixar just released the new poster you see below for the film. It’s currently scheduled to be released on June 18. It’s not clear if it’ll be released on Disney+ or theaters…or both.
Wes Anderson, the filmmaker responsible for films like Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Bottle Rocket, is just about ready to release his latest film, The French Dispatch.
Searchlight Pictures released the first poster for the film this week, and you can definitely tell it’s a Wes Anderson flick. This poster works for no other filmmaker.
The plot of this movie has been kept under wraps, but we do know it “brings to life a collection of stories from the fictional issue of an American magazine published in a fictional 20th-century French city.”
This project has an impressive cast, which includes Timothee Chalamet, Owen Wilson, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Benicio Del Toro and Tilda Swinton.
Anderson reportedly worked with a $25 million budget, which is the same budget he had for Grand Budapest Hotel.
The French Dispatch is scheduled to hit theaters July 24, 2020.
Not much is known about the plot at this point, but Charlize Theron is expected to return as Cipher, the villain of The Fate of the Furious. (That doesn’t necessarily mean she’s the villain of this movie; Fast bad guys have a habit of turning face after a movie or two.)
The previous film, Fate of the Furious, was not received well by critics or the general audience, but it still made over $1 billion worldwide.
And as long as they keep seeing box office results, they will continue to pump these films out.
‘A Quiet Place‘ was released back in 2018. The thriller/horror was a hit with just about everyone. The film has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made a cool $340 million against a budget under $25 million.
And obviously with success like that, you knew there was going to be a sequel. And just like the first film, this sequel was directed/written by John Krasinski.
Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe have all returned for this sequel. The official synopsis reads:
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path
You can check out the teaser trailer below. The full trailer is expected to drop on New Year’s Day. It’ll hit theaters March 20, 2020.
Blumhouse Productions was responsible for like 95% of the horror films you saw in theaters this year, and next year will be no different.
The production company is promoting their upcoming supernatural horror film ‘Fantasy Island‘ by releasing the first poster and official synopsis.
The film, which is based on the classic ABC series of the same name, will star Michael Pena, Michael Rooker and Lucy Hale.
The Enigmatic Mr. Roarke (played by Michael Peña) makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.
According to the Hollywood insiders, this film is Westworld meets The Cabin in the Woods.
It’s set to hit theaters February 14, 2020. Check out the first poster below…
If you have been finding it difficult to sleep lately due to nightmares, don’t be fooled by the upcoming flick, Doctor Sleep…it will not help you sleep.
The horror flick, which is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’sThe Shining, will only add to your nightmarish sleep. The new poster for the film is basically daring you to go back to the infamous hotel.
Doctor Sleep continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
The movie is set to hit theaters on November 8, 2019. Some countries outside of the US will get it a week early on October 30.
No reviews have come out for the movie, but they’ll likely be coming in later this month. It’ll be interesting to see what the consensus is.
Kevin Smith is one of the most talented filmmakers of our time. He might be under your radar, but he shouldn’t be. We nearly lost him to a heart attack back in 2018, but thankfully doctors were able to save his life.
Since the health scare, Smith has dropped a considerable amount of weight and is currently thriving on a vegan diet.
And now that he’s feeling better, he’s ready to get back to work. The writer/director just released a new Avengers: Endgame-inspired poster for his upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
The stoner icons who first hit the screen 25 years ago in CLERKS are back! When Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them, the clueless duo embark on another cross-country mission to stop it all over again!
This film is expected to hit theaters October 15, 2019, and yes…the whole cast returned for this reboot, including Jason Mewes, Jason Lee and Shannon Elizabeth.
Movie posters are typically hit-or-miss, and lately it feels like there have been a lot of misses.
But we finally got a hit this week, thanks to the brilliant marketing team behind the Chucky reboot film, Child’s Play. They released a poster on their social media accounts on Tuesday and it appears to show Chucky walking out of the frame, leaving behind a doll that looks a lot like Woody from Toy Story.
Check out the poster for Toy Story 4 and the new poster for Child’s Play side-by-side…
As you can see, the only thing they changed was Woody’s shirt color, most likely because they wanted to avoid a potential lawsuit from Disney.
It’s a brilliant idea for a poster, and honestly it kinda makes me want some weird Toy Story/Child’s Play crossover film. Obviously that’s never going to happen though.
Child’s Play hits theaters June 21…the same day as Toy Story 4.
