Warner Bros Lands Upcoming Action Murder Mystery ‘The Executioner’ Starring Jason Momoa

According to the reports, there was a fairly intense bidding war in Hollywood recently for Jason Momoa’s upcoming murder mystery film, The Executioner.

We don’t know how high the bidding war got, but we are hearing that Warner Bros won the project by offering a lucrative deal.

The script for the film was written by Kaz and Ryan Firpo, the writing duo behind Eternals, the 2021 superhero film starring Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

Not much is known about The Executioner, but it’s being described as a “fun action murder mystery” that is in the spirit of Knives Out meets The Lord of the Rings, which sounds pretty silly, but that’s Hollywood for you.

No director has been attached yet, but we’re assuming that will be the next step for the studio. And then they’ll likely build out the cast around Momoa.

Murder mystery films are hot right now, thanks in large part to the success of Knives Out. Hollywood is trying to ride the wave before it washes out.

Adam Sandler And Jennifer Aniston Nearing Deal To Return For ‘Murder Mystery 2’

Netflix and Adam Sandler had a pretty big hit on their hands with the comedy film ‘Murder Mystery

Even though critics were mixed on it, the general audience loved it. Back in June of 2019, Netflix reported that 30.9 million households watched the film in the first 72 hours, the biggest opening weekend for a film in the company’s history at the time.

And with that success comes sequels. It was reported this week that Jeremey Garelick has signed on to direct the sequel. The script for this sequel was once again written by James Vanderbilt, but it’s being reported that Garelick will do a polish on it.

A deal has not been closed to bring back Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston for this sequel, although sources say it’s close and everyone expects they will return.

Sandler played a cop and Aniston his wife in the original film, in which they went on vacation and got framed for the murder of an elderly rich guy.

We don’t know much about this sequel, but according to the reports, it’s set to film in Paris and the Caribbean, which will be hard for Sandler to pass up. We all know how much he loves a good destination shoot.

Netflix is fast-tracking this sequel, so it’s possible we could see a release date as early as summer 2022.

Check Out First Image Of Saoirse Ronan And Sam Rockwell In Upcoming Murder Mystery ‘See How They Run’

Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell, two actors with a lot of charm, are teaming up in the Searchlight murder mystery film, See How They Run.

The studio just released the film’s title and the first images this week. In addition to Ronan and Rockwell, the ensemble cast includes Adrien Brody, Ruth Wilson and David Oyelowo.

The film is set in the West End of 1950s London, where plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid theater underground, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.

Tom George directed the flick. He’s directed several episodes of television, but it looks like this will be his first feature film, and what a cast to have for your first feature.

Production recently wrapped on the movie and it’s currently set for a release date in 2022. According to the report, it will be a theatrical release, so no streaming plan here.

Gotta say, I’m excited for this. I love a good murder mystery, and with Rockwell and Ronan sharing the spotlight? I’m all the way in.

Saoirse Ronan, David Oyelowo And Sam Rockwell Set To Star In Murder Mystery Film

Murder mystery films are hot right now, thanks in large part to the success of Knives Out, which was released around Thanksgiving in 2019. The film was a hit with critics and made over $300 million worldwide.

Now other studios are trying to cash in on the murder mystery train. It was announced this week that Saoirse Ronan, Sam Rockwell and David Oyelowo are set to star in an upcoming murder mystery thriller from Searchlight Pictures.

Tom George is on board to helm from a script by Mark Chappell. The story is set in 1950s London, where a desperate Hollywood film producer sets out to turn a popular West End play into a film. When members of the production are murdered, world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Rockwell) and overzealous rookie Constable Stalker (Ronan) find themselves in the midst of a puzzling whodunit within London’s glamorous Theatreland and sordid underground.

No word on when production will begin, but with the leads attached and the script complete, it’ll likely be sometime within the next few months.

It should be a successful film. That’s a lot of talent listed above. Not sure if it’ll be more dramatic or more comedic, but Rockwell’s characters usually have a little bit of humor to them, so we’re assuming he will be providing the comedic relief.

Watch First Trailer For Murder Mystery Film ‘Death on the Nile’

Director Kenneth Branagh had a lot of success in 2017 when he adapted the Agatha Christie novel, Murder on the Orient Express.

The murder mystery received mixed reviews from critics, but it was a hit at the box office, bringing in over $300 million.

Now Branagh is returning with another Christie novel, Death on the Nile, which was originally published way back in 1937.

Death on the Nile will see Branagh returning in the role of beloved fictional detective Hercule Poirot. The plot follows Poirot, a world-renowned detective, who becomes involved in a love triangle gone murderously bad while on a vacation in Egypt.

In addition to Branagh, this mystery will also star Gal Gadot, Rose Leslie, Armie Hammer, and Sophie Okonedo.

As of right now, the movie is expected to be released October 23, 2020, but we’ll see if another covid surge prevents them from doing so.

First Photos From Jennifer Aniston And Adam Sandler’s Comedy Film ‘Murder Mystery’

The last time Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston worked together was back in 2011 in the romantic comedy Just Go With It. The film was (of course) slammed by critics, but it did perform well at the box office, making over $200 million against an $85 million budget.

Now Aniston and Sandler are teaming up again for the Netflix comedy, Murder Mystery.

They play a married couple in the movie. Sandler’s character is a New York City police officer who takes his wife on a long-promised trip to Europe.

On a flight there, they get invited to an intimate family gathering on the superyacht of an elderly billionaire who is later murdered. The unsuspecting couple finds themselves on the run after they get framed for his murder.

Murder Mystery also stars Luke Evans, Gemma Arterton and Terence Stamp.

It’ll premiere on Netflix on June 12, 2019.

Adam Sandler And Jennifer Aniston Are Reuniting For Netflix ‘Murder Mystery’ Film

Back in 2011, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston teamed up together in the blockbuster comedy Just Go With It. The film received terrible reviews from critics (as to be expected with a recent Sandler film) but the audience loved it. It earned a total of $215 million worldwide on a budget of just $80 million.

Ever since then, they have been searching for the right project to team up again, and it looks like they have found one. Sandler and Aniston will star together in Netflix’s Murder Mystery.

“The story follows a New York cop (Sandler) and his wife (Aniston), who become prime suspects in the murder of an elderly billionaire while vacationing in Europe.”

Kyle Newacheck (Workaholics) is on board to direct the movie, which was written by James Vanderbilt. This will be Sandler’s sixth feature project with Netflix, but it will be Aniston’s first time working with them.

By the way, if you need more Sandler before this film is released, you can check out his upcoming Netflix comedy with Chris Rock titled ‘The Week Of‘ on April 27, 2018.

The First Trailer For ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ Has Arrived, And You Do Not Want To Miss It!

20th Century Fox gave us all a little gift this week. The studio released the first trailer for the star-studded murder mystery film, Murder on the Orient Express.

The Agatha Christie adaptation was directed by Kenneth Branagh and was scripted by American Gods co-creator Michael Green. In addition to the wonderful directing and writing talent, the film is also packed with some A-list talent.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Leslie Odom Jr., Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz and Josh Gad.

Sometimes, when a film features this many stars, it ends up being a huge disappointment. It’s kinda like building a super team in basketball. You can have all the talent money can buy, but they still have to perform well as a team.

Thankfully, it looks like the stars listed above did perform well as a team. The trailer has got me interested, which is a bit surprising because I wasn’t looking forward to watching this movie before.

You can check out the plot summary and the official trailer below. It’s scheduled to hit theaters November 10, 2017.

“Agatha Christie’s novel, published in 1934, is considered one of the most ingenious stories ever devised. The novel revolves around a murder on board the famous train. Belgian detective Hercule Poirot must solve the case, but there are a number of passengers who could potentially be the murderer. In addition to directing the film, Branagh, a five-time Academy Award®-nominee, will star as detective Hercule Poirot.”
