But now it’s time to discuss the bad side of the internet. Illegal piracy is still one of the main problems hurting the industry.
Excipio, a firm that follows online copyright infringement, compiled data for the period between Jan. 1 and Dec. 23, 2014. Their data revealed that even though the Academy didn’t appreciate Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, torrent users worldwide sure did enjoy it.
The award-winning film was downloaded over 30 million times in 2014, narrowly beating Disney’s Frozen, which was downloaded over 29 million times.
