Check Out Halle Berry In First Trailer For MMA Sports Drama ‘Bruised’

Halle Berry is directing herself in the upcoming MMA drama film, Bruised. The 55-year-old actress will be making her feature directorial debut, so it’s a pretty big deal.

In addition to directing, she’s also starring as Jackie Justice, a MMA fighter who has left the sport in disgrace.

Years later, we find her down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret, watching as she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto) and grabs the attention of a fight league promoter (Shamier Anderson) who promises her a life back in the octagon. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny (Danny Boyd, Jr.) — the son she gave up as an infant— shows up at her doorstep, following the death of his father.

Sounds like there’s a lot going on there, but the trailer looks interesting, so I’m excited to check it out. It’ll be released inside select theaters on November 17 before being released nationwide on Netflix on November 24.

While speaking with The New York Times in September, Berry had this to say about the movie:

We haven’t seen an African American woman in this way in a movie. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio. I am salt of the earth, it’s a world I know and is intrinsic to who I am. If I’m going to get to tell a story, I’m going to make it from a point of view that I know. I thought that was a very good way for me to start.
