‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout’ Opens To Biggest Box Office Opening In Franchise History

We all knew ‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout‘ had a decent chance of breaking multiple records during its opening weekend. The impressive reviews from critics and the record-breaking Thursday night preview set the film up well.

During its opening weekend, the sixth film in the franchise made $61.5 million at the domestic box office, which was a new record for the franchise.

It also made $92 million at the international box office, and that is also a record for the franchise. In total, it’s made $153.5 million globally, and it’s well on its way to becoming the highest grossing film in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

And these impressive numbers might have been even higher had MoviePass allowed its users to buy tickets for the film. The movie ticket subscription service ran out of money this past weekend and basically blocked its users from seeing one of the most talked about blockbusters of the year.

We’re not sure how badly that hurt the opening, but even with the unexpected roadblock, Fallout still broke several records.

We have to imagine everyone involved is celebrating today.

‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout’ Has Near Perfect Rating On Rotten Tomatoes Following Record-Breaking Thursday Night Preview At Box Office

The ‘Mission: Impossible‘ franchise is the rare movie franchise that gets better with every movie released. Back in 2015, Rogue Nation scored a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned more than $600 million at the global box office.

Now, the sixth movie in the franchise is hitting theaters, and it’s sitting pretty with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Mission: Impossible — Fallout is performing incredibly well with critics, and now thanks to its Thursday night preview, we know it’s performing well with the audience as well.

It earned $6 million on Thursday night and “that figure reps an all-time preview record for Tom Cruise,” which is hard to believe.

Experts predicted it’d take home $4 million on Thursday, so it’s already outperforming. Some people believe it could make $60 million during its opening weekend. If it hits that mark, it’ll set an opening weekend record for the franchise.

To compare, Jason Bourne made $4.3 million in Thursday night previews two years ago and went on to make $59.2 million during its opening weekend.

We’ll have to see how high the number climbs for Fallout.

Tom Cruise is 55-years-old. Just think about that for a minute. In five years, Tom Freakin’ Cruise will be 60-years-old. If that doesn’t make you feel old, then I don’t know what will.

But you know, maybe it shouldn’t make you feel THAT old, ’cause even though he’s pushing 60, Cruise still looks and moves like a 35-year-old. He has returned for the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, and he’s performing the most dangerous stunts of his career

You can see him leaping from buildings, flying a helicopter, and jumping out of airplanes in the trailer below.

As you all know, we are not fans of sequels on this site. Franchises (looking at you Fast & Furious) that go on for too long are the worst, but for some reason, the Mission: Impossible story still works. This movie looks great, and it’s probably going to perform well at the box office. Cruise might be starring in this franchise ’til he’s 70.

Mission: Impossible — Fallout will hit theaters July 27, 2018.
