Screenwriter Max Landis Accused Of Rape And Psychological Abuse By Multiple Women

If you’re just a casual fan of movies, you probably have no idea who Max Landis is, and you should be grateful. However, if you closely follow the ~arts~ then you probably know exactly who Max Landis is.

He’s the outspoken screenwriting son of filmmaker John Landis. Max got his start in Hollywood, thanks to his last name, and to his credit he cashed in on the opportunity. In five short years, he wrote Chronicle, American Ultra, Mr. Right, Victor Frankenstein, and most recently the Netflix film Bright.

According to reports at the time, Netflix paid him close to $4 million for his ‘Bright’ script, which is pretty ridiculous. That’s a lot of money for a script, especially one written by someone like Max, who routinely failed at the box office. His projects were constantly slammed by critics, which made everyone wonder, “How is he still getting paid the big bucks?”

Well, the good news is that you’ll no longer have to scratch your head in confusion because Max is done in Hollywood. Several women have come forward and accused him of sexual and psychological abuse.

Variety reports:

Two of the women spoke on the record, and another five were identified by pseudonyms. An eighth women confirmed that she filed a police complaint against Landis in 2008, in which she alleged that he had sexually assaulted her while she was drunk and incapacitated. The case was later dropped.

Three of the women alleged that Landis choked them. One woman alleged that Landis held her down and raped her, and would deliberately humiliate her because wanted to have sex with her while she was crying. Two more women described accounts of alleged sexual misconduct on movie sets.

None of this is surprising. There had been rumors going around for years about Max, and it’s honestly shocking it took so long for this to happen.

According to the report, Max’s upcoming film ‘Deeper‘ is being pulled off the production line by MGM. Idris Elba was attached to star.

Josh Trank, the director of one of Max’s first films, claims he banned Max from set while filming the sci-fi flick because he was so toxic.

A New Trailer For ‘Bright’ Has Been Released, Watch Will Smith And Joel Edgerton In The Sci-Fi Thriller

Netflix typically sticks with low budget indie flicks, mostly because the risks are low, but now that they’re a big player in the movie industry, they are ready to spread their wings.

The streaming giant reportedly put in $90 million for ‘Bright,’ a sci-fi action flick directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. The movie, which was written by the always unique Max Landis, follows the story of two LAPD police officers who “form a most unlikely duo (one is a human and the other is an Orc) working to keep the mean streets of Los Angeles safe from a dark, sinister underworld.”

This movie will be released on Netflix (and select theaters) on December 22, and you know Netflix is hoping it does well. In addition to Smith and Edgerton, Bright also stars Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry and Edgar Ramirez.

Daniel Radcliffe And James McAvoy Star In The Unusual ‘Victor Frankenstein’ Trailer

It’s here, folks! The first trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Victor Frankenstein has arrived. James McAvoy plays Frankenstein in the film, with Daniel Radcliffe co-starring as his loyal assistant, Igor. The story is actually told from Igor’s perspective as he gets close to the doctor and helps him with his experiments.

In this first trailer, you can tell Daniel and James have incredible chemistry together. That alone should be enough to make you want to watch the movie. Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss, and Jessica Brown Findlay complete the all-star cast.

Victor Frankenstein is directed by Paul McGuigan from a script by Max Landis, who has several projects coming out soon including the Kristen Stewart/Jesse Eisenberg action comedy, American Ultra.

So far, the reaction to this trailer has been mostly positive, mainly because people are so in love with Daniel and James. Can you really blame them? They are pretty adorable together. You can check out the official synopsis and trailer below. It’s scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 25, 2015.

“James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.”

Kristen Stewart And Jesse Eisenberg Star In Red Band ‘American Ultra’ Trailer

Yesterday we showed you the intriguing trailer for Jesse Eisenberg’s new movie with Jason Segel, The End of the Tour. And now we have another Jesse-filled movie trailer to share with you all.

American Ultra stars Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart. It’s being described as an action/comedy/thriller/stoner’s wet dream. It’s also being compared to Pineapple Express, which should be all the motivation you need to watch the trailer. It also reminds me of the underrated TV show, Chuck.

Nima Nourizadeh directed the film, and Max Landis (Chronicle, Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling) created the script. Landis is an interesting character. If you watch some of his interviews, and even his random videos on YouTube, you can tell he really wants to write original stories. If you’re interested in learning more, check out the interview he did on the Explain Things to Me podcast.

I am excited about this film for several reasons. The reunion of Stewart and Eisenberg, the Chuck-like feel to the trailer, and the fact that Topher Grace is in the movie. I feel like most people don’t appreciate his comedy skills. He has great comedic timing.

Check out the official plot synopsis and trailer below. The film hits theaters August 21.

“A stoner and his girlfriend’s sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.”
