Watch Emily Blunt Star In Official ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer

We’re all getting a blast from the past today, thanks to Disney releasing the official trailer for the upcoming film ‘Mary Poppins Returns‘.

Emily Blunt has the starring role in the follow-up to the 1964 classic musical. This sequel of sorts is reportedly set in London 25 years after the events of the original film.

Collider gives us more details:

“Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) coming back into the life of the Banks family after they suffer a loss. Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now adults, but Mary, with the help of her friend, lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), has come to bring some joy and order into the life of Michael’s three children.”

This looks like it’s going to be a great holiday film for everyone in your family. Grandma should like it, your sister, brother, aunt, and possibly even your uncle if he’s drunk enough.

The film is set to hit theaters December 25, 2018. A nice little holiday treat to us all. Check out the trailer below…

It’s all happening, folks. Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns won’t hit theater until Christmas 2018, but the studio is already pushing the marketing for this film hard.

A new image of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins was released inside Entertainment Weekly’s June 16 issue. The magazine takes readers behind the scenes of the film…18 months before it actually gets released.

Blunt told the magazine she hopes the movie will be able to stand alone from the original…

“It’s a very nostalgic couple of words, isn’t it? I hope what we’re doing, and it certainly feels this way to me, is beautiful and profound and will be able to stand alone from the original.”

The sequel will pick up 25 years after the events of the first movie, and we now know more details about the film, thanks to this description from E! News:

“Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) is all grown up and living at his parents’ old house on No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane with his wife and three children. After his wife’s sudden death, the entire Banks family—including aunt Jane (Emily Mortimer) and housemaid Ellen (Julie Walters)—is devastated with grief. In with the wind comes Mary, who leads Michael’s children on a series of adventures: to the top of Big Ben, the bottom of the ocean, and into magical encounters with animated dancing penguins and upside-down cousins.”

Should be interesting to see if they can capture the magic of the first film. We have our doubts, since we typically hate sequels/remakes, but there are a lot of talented people involved with this project.

Maybe they have created something special.

First Look At Lin Manuel Miranda On The Set Of Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns (PHOTOS)

Back in 1964, Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews created a masterpiece with Mary Poppins. It’s a classic, and you know what Hollywood must do with classics, right? Ruin them by remaking them for a new generation.

Obviously there have been exceptions. Most recently with The Jungle Book, so it is possible to bring a classic film back to life.

And we think Disney is on the right track with Mary Poppins Returns. They have the talented Emily Blunt in the leading role, and they also convinced Lin-Manuel Miranda to join the cast. If, for some reason, you don’t know who Miranda is, just put in “Hamilton” on Spotify and say goodbye to your life.

Photos have been released on Twitter, and they’re giving us our first real look at Miranda in costume on the set of the film.

We’re not sure how big his role in the movie will be, but even if he doesn’t spend a lot of time in front of the camera, we know his genius will spread behind-the-scenes.

We have to imagine he’s helping Disney create a fresh sound for this sequel. That’s probably the main reason they invited him to join the movie.

It’s set to be released Dec 25, 2018. Still have almost two years to wait. We apologize for teasing you.

Disney’s ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel Gets A Release Date And A Batman-Style Title!

It’s a super-cali…ah you get the joke. It’s a good day for fans of Mary Poppins. On Tuesday, Disney announced that the Mary Poppins sequel will be released in a theater near you on December 25, 2018.

In addition to the release date, Disney also revealed the title of the sequel: Mary Poppins Returns. Emily Blunt and Hamilton creator/genius Lin-Manuel Miranda will star in the film. It will be directed by Rob Marshall, and he’ll be working with a screenplay written by David Magee.

So, yeah…the studio has some impressive names working on this film. It will be difficult for them to screw this up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story will be set in Depression-era London, “where a now grown-up Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by their former nanny following a tragedy in the family that leaves them numb and joyless.”

In a statement released after securing the directing job, Marshall had this to say about the original story/film…

“I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation.”

We look forward to it as well. Waiting is the hardest part! Two more years…
