Matthew McConaughey Approached By Marvel For Big Role In ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot?

Now that Matthew McConaughey has successfully completed his bizarre (and inspiring) commencement speech to the graduating class at the University of Houston, he’s able to put all his energy behind his acting career again.

And we know the 45-year-old actor has expressed interest in joining a superhero franchise from both DC and Marvel. Reports claim he has been “entertaining scripts” and trying to find the perfect role. And now a report from a website called Point of Geeks claims Marvel approached McConaughey to play Norman Osborn in the new Spider-Man reboot.

According to the site there has been “basic talks” between the studio and the actor. This means you shouldn’t go around telling all your friends that Matthew McConaughey will be in the new Spider-Man reboot. None of this has been confirmed.

And even if the reports are true, it still doesn’t mean the actor has the part. We are still in the early stages. This could be one of the many roles Marvel is considering for him. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. During a recent interview with Variety, McConaughey admitted that “nothing has been right for me yet.”

This could mean Marvel did offer him the role, but maybe he already turned it down?

The Spider-Man reboot is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017.

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Opens With The Second-Biggest Opening Ever

We all knew the Avengers sequel was going to be huge, the only question was would it beat the all-time record set by the first film in the franchise back in 2012.

The answer is no. Marvel is obviously celebrating the great $187 million opening this weekend, but the Avengers: Age of Ultron just couldn’t top its predecessor. The first Avengers film still has the all-time record opening with its $207.4 million debut.

And while some people might claim this is a disappointment for Marvel Studios, we should remind you that the company is responsible for the three biggest film openings ever: Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3.

Of course, that list might change later this year, but for right now Marvel Studios is the clear winner. Disney’s head of distribution Dave Hollis had this to say about the successful opening weekend…

“We’re in rare air here. Having the second biggest opening weekend in the history of the movie business is always going to be something you walk away overwhelmingly happy with. The momentum of the brand for Marvel at this point is really something to take a step back and admire.”

Their box office success is truly impressive. I know people like to complain (myself included) about all the sequels and huge franchises taking over Hollywood, but this is obviously what the audience wants to watch.

I actually watched Age of Ultron yesterday afternoon and there were at least six trailers shown before the film. There wasn’t one original story out of the six.

Disappointing? Sure. Surprising? Not at all.

Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ Script Was The Best Marvel Ever Had, According To Joss Whedon

ant

It’s clear Marvel fans are super excited about Ant-Man after seeing the insane trailer released last week, but Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon believes it could have been even better.

As some of you may know, Shaun Of The Dead director Edgar Wright was originally signed on to helm the Ant-Man movie for Marvel Studios. He worked extremely hard on the project for a long time, and after getting pushed back for several years, Wright started to focus on other things.

Then in 2012 he finally got the green light. Ant-Man was going to happen; however, it wasn’t going to be with Wright. He walked away from the film in 2014 due to creative differences.

And according to Joss Whedon, we all should be disappointed that his original script was abandoned. Why? Because it was freakin’ marvelous.

He told Buzzfeed the following…

“I thought the script was not only the best script that Marvel had ever had, but the most Marvel script I’d read. I had no interest in Ant-Man. [Then] I read the script, and was like, ‘Of course! This is so good!’ It reminded me of the books, when I read them. Irreverent and funny and could make what was small large, and vice versa. I don’t know where things went wrong. But I was very sad.”

Geez. Now I am a little sad. Still excited to see this “updated” version of Ant-Man, but it does make you wonder what could have been.

And while Whedon made it clear how much he loved Wright’s script, he also wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t picking sides in this battle.

“Whatever dissonance that came, whatever it was, I don’t understand why it was bigger than a marriage that seemed so right. But I’m not going to say it was definitely all Marvel, or Edgar’s gone mad! I felt like they would complement each other by the ways that they were different. And, uh, somethin’ happened.”

Fox released the first teaser trailer for Josh Trank’s reboot of the classic Marvel series, Fantastic Four. The internet went nuts when the trailer was released yesterday, and as you might expect, fans either hated it or loved it.

Every time Marvel releases a new trailer for one of their brilliant films, I always picture Squints saying, “She knows exactly what she’s doing.”

Marvel knows. They know what these trailers do to their fans all over the world. The latest full-length trailer for “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” premiered during the College Football Playoff National Championship last night on ESPN.

Director Joss Whedon warned fans early on that this film would be much darker than the original due to Ultron’s involvement. And this trailer certainly continues to deliver the darkness. James Spader’s voice in this trailer is absolutely brilliant.

Normally, this is the spot in the post where we will list the stars of the film; however, that would honestly take up too much space. Just think of every movie star on the A-list. They will all play a role in this film.

You can check out the trailer down below. Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 1, 2015.

The Full Trailer for ‘Ant-Man’ Has Been Released, Check Out Paul Rudd In Action!

ant

We warned you a few days ago that the first ‘Ant-Man’ trailer would be released during the two-hour premiere of Marvel’s ABC miniseries, Agent Carter. Were you able to catch it? If not, don’t you worry! We have the full trailer for you at the bottom of this page.

As expected, this first trailer is really just another teaser for the film; however, there are a few laughs inside as the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), tries to convince Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) to take over as the new Ant-Man. At one point, Lang asks, “Is it too late to change the name?”

Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas aren’t the only stars in this film. Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll both play an important role in the film, but you don’t see much of them in the first trailer. The movie isn’t scheduled to be released until July 17, so you can look forward to a second trailer coming out soon.

Check out the official Ant-Man movie synopsis and trailer down below…

“The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” when master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats.”

Marvel Releases Human-Sized Teaser For The ‘Ant-Man’ Trailer (VIDEO)

rud

I haven’t been teased this much since gym class in 3rd grade. Marvel decided to get clever the other day by releasing an “ant-sized” teaser for their upcoming Ant-Man trailer. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe weren’t exactly pleased with the tease. The comments on the video were mostly negative, but then again most comments on YouTube are negative.

In any event, Marvel decided to apologize to fans around the world by uploading the full-size version of the teaser to their YouTube channel. It’s our first real look at the film. We see our first look at Paul Rudd walking alongside a few police officers, which makes sense because his character (Scott Lang) has been arrested for petty crimes.

The video you see down below is just a teaser for the full trailer. Marvel has announced that the full trailer will be released tomorrow during the premiere of Agent Carter on ABC.

As we mentioned above, Paul Rudd plays the lead role in the film, but he had some impressive coworkers helping him out. Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Judy Greer and even rapper T.I. all play a role in the film.

Ant-Man is scheduled to hit theaters July 17, 2015.

Doctor Strange: Joaquin Phoenix Out, Keanu Reeves In? Get The Details Inside

str

For months it looked like Joaquin Phoenix would land the title role for Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange movie. And for the most part, fans of the superhero were happy with the choice; however, things changed a little over a week ago.

Talks between Phoenix and Marvel broke down completely. We’re still not sure what happened, but the decision does appear to be final. Joaquin Phoenix will not take the lead role in Doctor Strange.

So who will Marvel go after now? No one knows for sure, but there has been a lot of support lately for Keanu Reeves. He’s obviously comfortable with action movies, and he has worked with director Scott Derrickson before on the set of The Day the Earth Stood Still. The support for Reeves certainly makes sense.

But would the actor even be interested in the role? Well, he was asked that very question while promoting his new film, John Wick.

“From a practical standpoint the idea of a longtime contract is sort of “errr” because you want to make sure the material is up to a certain level.  Like the good or great level.  I like the idea.  I go to those kinds of movies.  I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels.  [But] I didn’t know Doctor Strange as a character, I didn’t read that as a kid.  I’m gonna have to read it. I remember reading something… who’s going to play Doctor Strange? Would I be good for the role?”

He was asked this question by multiple reporters and his answer was pretty much the same every time. He’s interested, but he’s not a fan of long-term contracts and he’s not familiar with the character.

Doesn’t sound very promising. I’m not sure who will end up getting the role, but I wouldn’t jump on the Keanu Reeves bandwagon just yet.

It was announced yesterday that Marvel plans to release Doctor Strange July 8, 2016. The film, which will be directed by Scott Derrickson, will reportedly film in the UK. Following in the footsteps of Thor: The Dark World and Guardians Of The Galaxy.
