This news shouldn’t be too surprising for those of you who have been following this site. Back in October of 2015, we posted a story talking about how Daniel Craig would rather slash his wrists than make another James Bond movie.
“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.” The 47-year-old actor told Time Out London. It was a quote that got a lot of attention, and Craig tried to pull back on the comment during an interview with The Today Show.
“If you’re 200 yards from the end of a marathon and someone comes running up to you and says, ‘Are you going to run another marathon?’ there’s two words you use, and not on a morning show.”
This made it sound like another George Miller/Fury Road moment, where everyone involved just needed a break before even thinking about creating another film.
But now it looks like Daniel Craig might truly be finished with the James Bond franchise. His close friend and fellow actor Mark Strong talked with ShortList recently, and during the interview the fantastic idea of him playing a Bond villain came up.
“Do you know what, I’d have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he’s a pal and that would have been great. But I think he’s come to the end of his Bond time and so it’s probably never going to happen, but that would have always been great.”
He did say “I think,” which means the door might not be completely closed yet. Maybe if we all keep knocking loud enough, Craig will decide to return one last time.
