Julia Roberts Had To Convince Lucas Hedges To Star In His Father’s Own Movie

For those who don’t know, Lucas Hedges is the son of filmmaker Peter Hedges, but up until the most recent ‘Ben is Back‘ flick, they hadn’t really worked together.

And that’s mostly because of Lucas. It’s not that he didn’t think his father was an incredibly talented director, it’s just that…who wants to work with their dad? But also, he probably wanted to make his own name in the industry, and now that he’s done that, he feels more comfortable with the idea.

But still, he needed a little encouragement from Julia Freakin’ Roberts before he agreed to star in his father’s latest project, Ben is Back.

Peter told Variety the following…

“I knew I had a problem when I met with Julia, and she wouldn’t listen to any of my ideas for who could play Ben. She said, ‘I want Lucas to do the movie.’ We talked through it, so I was thrilled when he finally decided to read the script.

Who wants to go work with your dad when you can work with Greta Gerwig? You can work with Martin Mcdonagh, Kenny Lonergan… why would you want to work with me? I get it. I would want to work with them before me.”

Lucas doesn’t look at it that way, though. He thinks his father doesn’t give himself enough credit, and once he read the script for Ben is Back, he knew it was something special.

“He wrote an unbelievable script, and he’s also at the end of the day, the only reason why I do this. I would have come along to it, but Julia accelerated the process.”

Hopefully they work together again in the future. Ben is Back is great, but I believe they can make something even better together.

Watch The Official Trailer For ‘Ben is Back’ Starring Julia Roberts And Lucas Hedges

Lucas Hedges is one of the most talented young actors in Hollywood right now, so it makes sense that a studio would partner him up with a legend like Julia Roberts.

Both Roberts and Hedges star in the upcoming family drama, Ben is Back. In the movie, Hedges plays a troubled boy who arrives home on Christmas Eve unexpectedly after skipping rehab.

Roberts plays his concerned mother. The movie has been receiving lots of praise from critics who saw early screenings. Peter Debruge, one of the most respected critics in the game, said this in his review of the film

“The entire film is that rarest of gifts for its cast, providing virtually every character with a chance to play not only the present moment, but the complicated history they’ve established with Ben in the past, as well as whatever chance they see in the troubled young man’s future.”

This movie could take home a few awards. It’s set to be released in prime award season on December 7, 2019.

Potential Oscar Nominee? Watch The Emotional Trailer For ‘Boy Erased’ Starring Lucas Hedges

If you’re a movie fan, you probably already know the name Lucas Hedges. The 21-year-old actor has shown off his acting skills recently with great performances in Manchester by the Sea, Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

He’s been at the Oscars the past two years, and he might be going back a third time for his work in the upcoming film, Boy Erased.

The film, directed by Joel Edgerton, is based on Garrard Conley’s memoir about his experience being sent to conversion therapy. Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman play the disapproving parents in the movie.

Some people might take one look at this film and think, ‘Well, this is just Oscar bait,” but it’s much more than that. It’s an important story that needs to be told, and we’re happy to see the cast & crew treated it with respect.

Boy Erased will hit select theaters November 2, 2018. You’ll want to watch this one, folks.

Lucas Hedges And Sterling K. Brown Set To Star In Upcoming A24 Drama From ‘It Comes At Night’ Director

When I see “A24” attached to a project, I immediately get excited. According to a new report from Variety, Lucas Hedges and Sterling K. Brown will star in the upcoming film ‘Waves,’ which is being directed by Trey Edward Shults.

That name might sound familiar to you. He first hit the scene with the critically acclaimed family drama Krisha in 2015/2016, and then he had a taste of mainstream success with the horror film It Comes at Night in 2017.

He’ll be making a return to the land of drama with this third movie…

“Described as a dramatic musical with a fresh spin, the pic is an energetic, affecting anthem of contemporary teenage life. The movie follows two young couples as they navigate the emotional minefield of growing up and falling in love.”

When you hear “musical” you’re probably thinking like La La Land where the characters randomly start singing and dancing. The traditional musical.

But this film is going to be more like Baby Driver. Music will be playing almost constantly, but the characters won’t always be engaging with it.

“The film will be almost entirely synchronized to music, mixing some iconic contemporary songs alongside an original score by Academy Award winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.”

Sign me the hell up. I can’t wait to watch this movie. Production is scheduled to start in Florida next month, so it likely won’t be released until 2019.
