Lionsgate Has Acquired Worldwide Rights To Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks III’

Well, we have some good news for all you Clerkheads out there. It’s being reported this week that Kevin Smith’s upcoming ‘Clerks III‘ has been picked up by Lionsgate. They’ve acquired worldwide rights to the film, which is set to begin production in just a few weeks.

Filming will take place in New Jersey in August. Smith wrote the script and will direct the project. And yes, all major cast members are set to reprise their roles, including Jay Mewes and Rosario Dawson.

In Clerks III, following a massive heart attack, Randal enlists Dante, Elias, Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all.

As most of you probably know, Smith himself experienced a massive heart attack back in 2018 and nearly died, so obviously this story is a personal one for him.

Smith describes the story as the closest one yet to his own biography, with Dante and Randal figuring out how turn the people and stories in their lives into characters. They’ll even be forced to film, as Smith did, in black and white, and Smith intends for the movie-within-a-movie scenes in ‘Clerks 3’ to also be in black and white.

The entire film will be shot in New Jersey, which is something Smith is super proud of. It’s the first time he’s been able to do that since 1993.

No word on a release date, but with Lionsgate behind it, you’d think it would have a fairly widespread theatrical release.

Kevin Smith Celebrates One Year Anniversary Of His Heart Attack By Announcing Production Of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

One year ago, Kevin Smith had a near-fatal heart attack. Doctors informed him it was a miracle he got help just in time because his sh*t was almost completely blocked. He has completely changed his life since the scary incident and mainly sticks to a vegan/vegetarian diet now. Last we heard, he had lost over 50 pounds, and it certainly shows.

He’s probably in the best shape of his life, and on the one-year anniversary of his heart attack, Smith went on his Instagram account to announce that production on the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot has started.

He snapped a photo with Jason Mewes and Jason Lee, and wrote a lengthy caption about how grateful he was to still be alive and doing what he loves for a living. He said the Oscars were on in the background during rehearsals the other night, and he “couldn’t help but feel relief when the ‘In Memoriam’ montage ended and I wasn’t in it”

No word on an official release date for this reboot, but it’ll likely be either late 2019 or early 2020.

One year ago today, I almost died. So today, I’m living it up on with @jaymewes and Jason Lee on Day 1 of my new flick @jayandsilentbob Reboot! Thanks to @saban_films and Universal for the loot to make this epic, @jordanmonsanto and @destrofilms for making it happen, @jenschwalbach and @harleyquinnsmith for humoring my goofy bullshit one more time, and #jasonmewes for standing beside me all these years while I do the hardest thing I can personally ever do, either in film or in real life: simply shut the fuck up. I couldn’t think of a better scene with which to start the shoot than the return to the Mall with Brodie Bruce. The three of us gathered for a couple hours last night to run the lines and realized we first rehearsed together waaaaay back in the mid-90’s. It may be 24 years later and we may have 6 kids between us, but Jay, Lee and me partied like it was 1995, giggling while adding jokes and finding inflections. The Oscars were on in the background during our practice and I couldn’t help but feel relief when the “In Memoriam” montage ended and I wasn’t in it. We picked 2/25 as the Reboot start date *intentionally*, to celebrate the fact that I did not become Silent Bob forever 365 days ago. But after a blissful couple hours of making pretend with my friends on the set of my 14th film, I’m starting to think I *did* die in that operating room after all. Because what could be more Heavenly than this? #KevinSmith #jayandsilentbob #jayandsilentbobreboot #jasonlee #jaymewes #neworleans #brodiebruce #wwambassador #movie

Kevin Smith Plans To Donate All Future Residuals From Weinstein-Made Movies To Women In Film

Kevin Smith’s career will be linked to Harvey Weinstein forever. He has worked with the producer for over a decade, and most of Smith’s early work (Clerks, Mall Rats, Dogma, etc) was produced by Miramax and The Weinstein Co.

So when the sexual assault allegations came raining down on Weinstein, Smith was shocked, confused and incredibly disappointed. He didn’t know how to handle the situation.

Smith addressed the issue on his most recent podcast episode of Hollywood Babble-On. He revealed that he’s going to donate all future-residuals from his Weinstein-backed films to the non-profit Women in Film, which advocates for the advancement of women in the industry.

My entire career is tied up with the man. It’s been a weird f–king week. I just wanted to make some f–king movies, that’s it. That’s why I came, that’s why I made Clerk. No f–king movie is worth all this. Like, my entire career, f–k it, take it. It’s wrapped up in something really f–king horrible. I’m not looking for sympathy. I know it’s not my fault, but I didn’t f–king help. I sat out there talking about this man like he was a hero, like he was my friend, like he was my father and s–t like that.”

You can tell by the emotion in his voice that he really was hurt by this. I mean, it’s easy to reply to all this with, “Well, how the hell did he not know?”

But the truth is, we don’t know how much anyone knew. There were clearly people who knew about Weinstein’s behavior, and there were some people out there who knew a few people had complained about him, but they didn’t realize the allegations were this serious. Smith could be in that second group.

At least he’s doing the right thing now. Much respect.

Kevin Smith Announces The Jay And Silent Bob Reboot Will Begin Filming This Fall

Whether you wanted it or not, a Jay and Silent Bob reboot is coming, and filming will start this fall. Kevin Smith announced the news on his Twitter account. He posted the photo you see above, with the caption, “16 years ago #JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack was released in theaters. And this Fall, we shoot a follow-up flick called #JayAndSilentBobReboot”

Screen Rant reveals what the movie will be about…

“The plot will see Jay and Bob on a mission to Hollywood once more: this time, they’re aiming to halt the production of Bluntman Vs Chronic, a dark and gritty reboot that will pit their superhero doppelgangers against one another.”

So at least this film is making fun of the fact that Hollywood is reboot/remake/sequel obsessed. Smith even described it as a “tongue-in-cheek, silly a** satire” earlier this year.

No details on the cast, but you can expect to see a lot of celebrity cameos. He’s got a lot of connections in Hollywood, and he’s not afraid to use them. We also don’t have a release date yet, but if filming starts (and ends) this fall, it’ll likely be released in the summer of 2018.

Kevin Smith Reveals ‘Mallrats 2’ Will Come Before ‘Clerks 3’

As you hardcore fans will know, Kevin Smith was originally planning to work on Clerks 3 this summer, and then start on Mallrats 2 in 2016.

But plans have changed, thanks to his desire to blow up a freakin’ mall. Filming will begin later this year on Mallrats 2, which means Clerks 3 will be pushed back another year. He broke the news during his latest Hollywood Babble-On podcast.

During the podcast, he explains that they just found the perfect mall to film in. A “big old empty mall” Smith reveals.

And some disturbing things will be happening to this mall during the film…

“So if you had a mall and the mall was eventually going away, that would let you like blow the f—ing mall up, which happens in the third act. So we found a place that we can go to.”

He then explained the original plan, which included filming Clerks 3 this summer, and Mallrats either at the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016.

“But now, based on a f—ing mall that we all dig that will be going away, the priority has become Mallrats. So the next f—ing movie I’m making is Mallrats 2. No word on Batfleck yet…but it would be fun to see if we could get him.”

As you can see above, Kevin Smith is trying to convince Ben Affleck to come back. We know he’s still busy with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but hopefully he can clear his schedule for a few days to make an appearance in the sequel.

So, who is coming back for sure? Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Shannen Doherty, Jason Mewes, Ethan Suplee, and many more. Smith claims he’s just waiting on two people to agree. We know one of those people is Mr. Affleck.

We’ll keep you updated. By the way, I am really excited he decided to film this one first.

Must See Photos: Haley Joel Osment Rocks Bizarre Look For His Role In ‘Yoga Hosers’

Actors transforming their bodies for roles in movies is nothing new. We all remember Matthew McConaughey’s incredible (and slightly terrifying) transformation for his magnificent portrayal of Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club.

And we can’t forget Charlize Theron in Monster.

I think we can all agree those are impressive transformations; however, they just can’t compete with Haley Joel Osment’s new look for his role in the Kevin Smith film, Yoga Hosers. According to reports, the 26-year-old actor will play a Nazi in the movie.

The intriguing film centers around two 15-year-old yoga lovers, who have an after-school job at a convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. The official press release states the following…

“When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives with all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time.”

Okay, now that we’re all caught up, let’s get to these wonderful photos.

Insane, right? He looks like a cartoon character, or a funeral director who enjoys his job a little too much.

For those wondering, the film will hit theaters sometime next year.
