There are two things Hollywood loves without question, and those two things are superhero films and Dwayne Johnson.
So why not combine them? It’s being reported that Johnson and Emily Blunt will star in an upcoming superhero flick titled Ball and Chain.
Ball and Chain is being written by Oscar nominee Emily V. Gordon and is an adaptation of the ’90s comic of the same name by Scott Lobdell. It follows a married couple going through relationship turmoil who also have superpowers, but they only work properly when they’re together.
Gordon co-wrote ‘The Big Sick‘ with her husband Kumail Nanjiani, so at least we know there will be a talented screenwriter behind the project.
But still, the premise sounds a little…uh, silly? I feel like it’s going to be hard to pull off, but there are a lot of talented people involved, so maybe they can do it together.
The project is currently being shopped among multiple studios, but no deal has closed yet.
We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can catch Johnson and Blunt together in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which is set to hit theaters next summer.
Disney is trying its best to make you forget about the coronavirus by hitting you fast and hard with new trailers. On Tuesday, they dropped the second trailer for Jungle Cruise.
The film, which is based on the Jungle Cruise attraction at The Disneyland Resort, stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The pair embark on a great adventure, traversing the jungle in search of the tree. Along the way, they encounter various dangers and obstacles — hissing snakes, leopards on the attack and a human-manned submarine that seems intent on getting in their way.
In addition to Johnson and Blunt, you’ll also find the talented Jesse Plemons, Edgar Ramirez, Paul Giamatti and Jack Whitehall.
Jungle Cruise is set to hit theaters July 24, 2020. A classic summer blockbuster.
Disney surprised their fans on Friday by releasing the first trailer for ‘Jungle Cruise‘ starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The film is based on the beloved Disneyland ride of the same name, ’cause why not? Books, songs, news stories, Disneyland rides…anything can be a movie.
Johnson will play a boat skipper named Frank who takes Blunt’s character Lily and her brother McGregor — played by British stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall, who you may recognize from the Good Omens series on Amazon Prime — on a mission to find a tree that has magical healing powers.
This movie won’t hit theaters until July 24, 2020, so you still have a long time to wait. Disney likes to do that occasionally. Put out a trailer so far in advance you forget about it until it comes out.
“I’m too hot (hot damn) // Make a dragon wanna retire man // I’m too hot (hot damn).” I am beginning to think the hit song Uptown Funk was written for Dwayne Johnson. The 43-year-old actor/professional wrestler is so hot right now. He just recently finished filming Central Intelligence with Kevin Hart and Aaron Paul. He’s currently in pre-production on the Baywatch movie, the next film in the Fast & Furious franchise, the video game adaptation Rampage, oh and he also has a hit show on HBO, Ballers.
We haven’t even mentioned his growing relationship with Disney. As most of you know, he joined the Walt Disney family recently after signing on to be the lead voice in the animated musical Moana.
And now, thanks to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, we have discovered that Johnson will join Disney again for Jungle Cruise, a movie based on the safari-themed amusement park ride. The writing team behind Will Smith’sFocus has been hired to write the script.
This is HUGE news for Disney. They have been trying to create a film based on the ride for at least ten years now. Back in 2011, it looked like the project might feature Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The details behind this current version of the film haven’t been released. We don’t even know what kind of character Johnson will be playing.
But as always, we will keep you posted. For right now, we’ll leave you with this quote from Johnson…
“[Disney production president] Sean Bailey and Disney have been awesome partners and now the fun part begins … We’re starting to put in the work with Requa and Ficarra and our creative team. Fired up about this one. Here we go.”
