Julia Roberts And George Clooney Star In First Trailer For Rom-Com ‘Ticket to Paradise’

We told you earlier this year that Julia Roberts was making her return to the rom-com genre with the upcoming film, Ticket to Paradise.

And now, we finally have proof! Universal released the first trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy, in which Roberts co-stars alongside George Clooney.

They star as two long-divorced parents who impulsively married each other. When their daughter Lily (Kaitlyn Dever) heads on a post-graduation trip to Bali and decides to marry a local, the two fly out to Indonesia to talk her out of making the same mistake they once did.

Sounds like a fairly standard plot for a rom-com, but we’re sure Clooney and Roberts will make it special just by being freaking George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

Ol Parker directed the movie, from a script he co-wrote with Daniel Pipski. Both Roberts and Clooney will serve as producers as well, which is pretty standard when you’re as beloved as them in Hollywood.

Ticket to Paradise will hit theaters on October 21, 2022, which is a little surprising, considering Halloween time is not typically thought of as “rom-com” time inside theaters.

Julia Roberts Explains Why She Hasn’t Done A Rom-Com In 20 Years

Julia Roberts became a household name thanks in large part to her performances in a string of romantic comedies in the ’90s, including Pretty Woman, Notting Hill and My Best Friend’s Wedding.

It’s been over 20 years since she’s starred in a rom-com, and many people believed that was because she was tired of them. She didn’t want to be known as the actress who could only do romantic comedies.

But according to Roberts, that’s not the case. She hasn’t been opposed to rom-coms all these years, she just hasn’t been offered a great one.

People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one. If I had read something that I thought was that Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it.

She actually did find one recently that held up to her high standards, Ol Parker’s Ticket to Paradise. The movie, which is scheduled to be released in October of 2022, co-stars George Clooney.

And apparently, Clooney was the selling point for Roberts. She would only agree to star in the film if Clooney was her co-lead. Thankfully, the 60-year-old actor felt the same and the movie was made.

Roberts says she had a blast making the film…

The good news is yes. I love to laugh and be funny. You get into that mode of those endorphins going off when you’re clever and people going, ‘Oh!’ Then that becomes this automatic thing where you’re always thinking in terms of creating fun. It’s a joy to play in that sandbox. It has been a long time.

For those wondering, Ticket to Paradise follows a divorced couple who team up and travel to Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they made 25 years ago.

Mahershala Ali Set To Star Opposite Julia Roberts In Netflix Thriller ‘Leave The World Behind’

Mahershala Ali, who has two Oscars to his name, is out here trying to win even more. He has a busy schedule already, with the upcoming Blade flick, but he’s ready to add another project to his slate.

It was announced this week that Ali will co-star alongside Julia Roberts in the upcoming Netflix thriller, Leave the World Behind.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will direct the film and adapt from Rumaan Alam’s novel of the same name.

Based on Alam’s novel, Leave the World Behind is a story about two families, strangers to each other, who are forced together on a long weekend gone terribly wrong. Suspenseful and provocative, Alam’s third novel is keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race, and class. It explores how our closest bonds are reshaped—and unexpected new ones are forged—in moments of crisis.

When this project was first announced, Denzel Washington was rumored to star, but for whatever reason, it didn’t work out, and now Ali has stepped in.

The novel this film is based on was released in October 2020 and was listed as one of Barack Obama’s Summer Favorites. It’s also been named A Best Book of the Year by the Washington Post, NPR and Time.

No word on when production will begin, but we’ll keep you posted. I’m excited for this one. You have two incredibly talented actors leading the charge, along with a super talented director, who is working with great source material.

Billie Lourd Set To Join George Clooney And Julia Roberts In ‘Ticket to Paradise’

Billie Lourd is set to join some Hollywood legends in the upcoming Universal flick, Ticket to Paradise.

Lourd has had recent success, starring in the American Horror Story series and in the recent Star Wars flicks, so she’s no stranger to kicking it with some heavy hitters.

But she’s perhaps about to play in her biggest game yet, co-starring alongside George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

She’ll be playing a character named Wren Butler…

A recent University of Chicago graduate who accompanies her best friend Lily to a post graduation jaunt to Bali. Lily’s abrupt decision to marry a Balinese local triggers her parents (Clooney & Roberts) to team to try and stop her from repeating their mistake from 25 years ago. Wren stays in Bali for the engagement/wedding festivities and, in the process, finds her own love with a local doctor.

Sounds a little complicated, but I’m here for it. Ol Parker will be directing the film this fall from a script he co-wrote with Daniel Pipski.

No word on a planned release date, but we’ll keep you posted.

Julia Roberts Had To Convince Lucas Hedges To Star In His Father’s Own Movie

For those who don’t know, Lucas Hedges is the son of filmmaker Peter Hedges, but up until the most recent ‘Ben is Back‘ flick, they hadn’t really worked together.

And that’s mostly because of Lucas. It’s not that he didn’t think his father was an incredibly talented director, it’s just that…who wants to work with their dad? But also, he probably wanted to make his own name in the industry, and now that he’s done that, he feels more comfortable with the idea.

But still, he needed a little encouragement from Julia Freakin’ Roberts before he agreed to star in his father’s latest project, Ben is Back.

Peter told Variety the following…

“I knew I had a problem when I met with Julia, and she wouldn’t listen to any of my ideas for who could play Ben. She said, ‘I want Lucas to do the movie.’ We talked through it, so I was thrilled when he finally decided to read the script.

Who wants to go work with your dad when you can work with Greta Gerwig? You can work with Martin Mcdonagh, Kenny Lonergan… why would you want to work with me? I get it. I would want to work with them before me.”

Lucas doesn’t look at it that way, though. He thinks his father doesn’t give himself enough credit, and once he read the script for Ben is Back, he knew it was something special.

“He wrote an unbelievable script, and he’s also at the end of the day, the only reason why I do this. I would have come along to it, but Julia accelerated the process.”

Hopefully they work together again in the future. Ben is Back is great, but I believe they can make something even better together.

Watch The Official Trailer For ‘Ben is Back’ Starring Julia Roberts And Lucas Hedges

Lucas Hedges is one of the most talented young actors in Hollywood right now, so it makes sense that a studio would partner him up with a legend like Julia Roberts.

Both Roberts and Hedges star in the upcoming family drama, Ben is Back. In the movie, Hedges plays a troubled boy who arrives home on Christmas Eve unexpectedly after skipping rehab.

Roberts plays his concerned mother. The movie has been receiving lots of praise from critics who saw early screenings. Peter Debruge, one of the most respected critics in the game, said this in his review of the film

“The entire film is that rarest of gifts for its cast, providing virtually every character with a chance to play not only the present moment, but the complicated history they’ve established with Ben in the past, as well as whatever chance they see in the troubled young man’s future.”

This movie could take home a few awards. It’s set to be released in prime award season on December 7, 2019.

You Will Never Believe How Much Julia Roberts Made For Just 4 Days Of Work On ‘Mother’s Day’ Film

mot

It’s a Monday again and you’re probably back at a job you hate. This job probably doesn’t pay you enough, and your co-workers probably smell like corn chips and butt sweat. But this is your life and you don’t live in Hollywood with huge superstars like Julia Roberts.

The talented actress has worked hard to reach A-list status, and it’s certainly working out well for her. She had a supporting role in the disappointing film Mother’s Day. It made just $8.3 million during its opening weekend after receiving terrible reviews from critics. It’s currently sitting in a corner with an 8% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

But Julia Roberts probably doesn’t care too much. According to a report from Variety, the actress earned $3 million for just four days of work on set. This means she received around $750,000 a day, which is just insane to think about considering I don’t even make $750 a week.

Even if you take yourself out of it and jump straight into the magical land of Hollywood, the number is still pretty insane for only four days of work. I mean, the film made just $8.3 million this weekend. If she had two more days on set, her salary would have been over half the film’s weekend earnings.

Some people are wondering if this might hurt Julia’s career, but she’s probably safe considering she wasn’t exactly the star of this movie. It’s an ensemble, so if you want to blame her, then you also have to blame Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis.
