Judd Apatow Says He’s Hard At Work Developing ‘This Is 40’ Sequel ‘This Is 50’

Back in 2012, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann starred in the comedy film ‘This Is 40‘ and it was a pretty big success. Critics were mixed on it, but the general audience loved it, most likely because they could easily relate.

Now 10 years later, writer-director Judd Apatow wants to make a sequel titled This Is 50.

He talked to The Wrap recently, to promote his upcoming film The Bubble, and revealed he’s been working on an outline for the potential sequel. He apparently has an idea he really likes, so he’s been exploring it.

I’ve always wanted to make ‘This Is 50’ and it is time. I couldn’t have done it five years ago and I can’t do it five years from now, so I’ve been outlining that and hope it’s something that we get to do. I feel like [‘This Is 40’] has really aged well, and it always feels like everyone watches it when they turn 40 and they go, ‘Oh, I understand it all now’ [laughs]. So I’m enthusiastic about putting that together.

Obviously the idea would be to bring back Rudd and Mann. He shouldn’t have a difficult time convincing Mann, considering she’s his wife. They have been married since 1997, which is SUPER LONG in Hollywood years.

The Wrap asked him if This Is 50 would be his next project, and Apatow said it’s between that and another idea he’s working on.

So we’ll just have to wait and see if everything comes together.

Watch Karen Gillan And Pedro Pascal In Judd Apatow’s Upcoming Netflix Comedy ‘The Bubble’

Judd Apatow is teaming up with Netflix for the first time for his upcoming comedy film, The Bubble. The successful filmmaker previously worked exclusively with Universal Pictures, but now he’s moving to the land of streaming.

The movie, which was written and directed by Apatow, is reportedly inspired by the real-life production struggles of Jurassic World: Dominion, which faced several pandemic-related delays that forced cast and crew to remain in the United Kingdom for months.

In ‘The Bubble,’ Karen Gillan and Pedro Pascal play the lead actors in the action film ‘Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem,’ who get stranded at a hotel after the pandemic halts production. Leslie Mann and David Duchovny also star, playing a divorced acting couple forced to quarantine together.

And since this is Apatow we’re talking about, he’s put together a pretty great ensemble cast, which includes Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, Keegan-Michael Key and Rob Delaney.

Honestly, the premise sounded good to me, but after watching the trailer, I’m not as excited. It looks… stale.

I know it’s unfair to judge a movie by its trailer, but I don’t know, I’m not feeling it right now. It’s scheduled to drop on Netflix on April 1.

Judd Apatow Set To Make Pandemic Comedy Film For Netflix

Most people have stated that they have no interest in pandemic movies, especially as we’re currently still living in the pandemic.

But Hollywood doesn’t seem to be listening. A few pandemic movies have already been released, and there are several filming right now.

And it looks like you can add at least one more. Judd Apatow is reportedly developing an untitled pandemic comedy film for Netflix.

The film follows a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a film.

So he’s going real meta with it. No stars are attached to the project, but Netflix is fast-tracking it and Apatow is preparing to meet with actors in the coming weeks.

The film is not only a big deal because it marks another top talent headed to Netflix, but it also will mark the first feature film Apatow directs that isn’t at Universal, the studio he’s called home since his break-out blockbuster comedy The 40-Year Old Virgin in 2005. Since then, the two have created a juggernaut of comedy hits that Apatow not only directed like Knocked Up and Trainwreck, but produced as well like Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

They’ll probably want to start filming this after the holidays in January, which is why they’re trying to meet with actors before the holidays to get them locked up.

We’ll keep you posted.

Watch The First Trailer For Judd Apatow/Pete Davidson’s ‘King of Staten Island’ Film

If you’ve been following the headlines recently, then you know Pete Davidson is growing tired of Saturday Night Live. It’s likely this season or next will be his last on the show.

And it looks like following his SNL gig, he wants to transition into movies.

The 26-year-old comedian is the star of the upcoming comedy The King of Staten Island. The movie is described as “semi-autobiographical” and was co-written by Davidson himself.

Judd Apatow directed the project, which was originally set to release inside theaters across the country. Due to the coronavirus, the release date was canceled, and those involved decided a streaming/on demand release would be best.

The movie will premiere on demand on June 12.

The movie follows Davidson as Scott, a 20-something aspiring tattoo artist living at home in his New York City borough hometown, still grieving the loss of his firefighter father, who died 17 years prior.

As most of you know, Davidson’s dad in real life was a first responder in New York City during the 9/11 attacks. He died when Pete was just 7-years-old.

Check out the trailer for ‘The King of Staten Island’ below…

Pete Davidson’s ‘King of Staten Island’ Film Will Premiere On Demand Instead Of In Theaters

Another one bites the dust. The King of Staten Island, Universal’s semi-autobiographical comedy about Pete Davidson’s life, will not be released inside a theater near you.

Instead, it’ll be available to stream on June 12, just one week before it was originally scheduled to hit theaters.

Director Judd Apatow and Davidson announced the news in a video on Twitter. At one point, Davidson asks, “Am I still going to get an Oscar?’

The film was supposed to have its premiere at the SXSW festival in Austin back in March, but as we all know, the festival was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s the second Universal movie, following the studio’s animated adventure ‘Trolls World Tour,’ to experiment with premium video on demand while audiences are stuck at home during the pandemic.

The studio was apparently happy with the success of Trolls World Tour, so they decided to go the same route with King of Staten Island.

No trailer has been released, but you have to imagine that will be changing soon.

The comedy is loosely based off Davidson’s upbringing in the New York City borough, including losing his father during 9/11 and entering the world of stand-up comedy.

Superbad’s Director Talks About The Failed Sequel, And If There Is Any Hope For A Reunion Movie

Most of you should know by now that we’re not a fan of sequels. We’re not saying there haven’t been any good sequels produced, we’re just saying there are too many out there. Original ideas are getting pushed to the back of the line to make room for remakes and sequels.

The sequel market has been really heating up lately, which is why it’s a bit surprising we never saw a sequel to Superbad. It was incredibly successful at the box office and is considered to be one of the funniest movies in recent history.

Everyone involved would have made a ridiculous amount of money had their been a sequel, but the creators behind the film refused to put out an inferior product. Seth Rogen has always been against a direct sequel. He never wanted to do it. Judd Apatow admitted he would have been happy to produce a direct sequel if they could all come together to create a story worth telling.

That never happened, mainly because he was the only one who truly liked the idea. The director of the original film, Greg Mottola, recently talked with CinemaBlend and he talked about an idea he’s had for a few years now.

A huge reunion film. Not a sequel. It would be a completely different story, but with the same cast.

“I would love to reunite with every single person who worked on that movie, but we all feel like we got to do something special when no one was looking, and we certainly don’t want to shit on it. But I keep pitching, ‘Let’s just get everyone together and shoot a different movie with all the same cast, down to like the one line parts. Get every last person into a different movie.’ I would love to see that. I’ll have to see if he’ll take me up on that. But yeah, maybe when everyone is like 20 years older.”

It’s an interesting idea. It could work. For those wondering, Superbad was released in 2007, so 20 years later would be 2027.

We’ll be waiting.

This Special ‘Trainwreck’ Improv Clip With John Cena Shows Why You Need This Movie In Your Life

If you only have money to see one movie this weekend, you are going to have a difficult time trying to decide which film to see. You have Marvel’s Ant-Man and Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck. Both movies are performing well on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ant-Man has a respectable 78%; however, Trainwreck has a fantastic 90%. As I am writing this, it has 44 fresh reviews and only 4 rotten reviews. The people who have seen this movie claim it’s one of the funniest comedies this year, and with the two leads being played by Bill Hader and Amy Schumer? I believe the early reviews.

And honestly, I need a little break from comic book movies, so I had already planned to watch Trainwreck this weekend. But I understand there are some people still on the fence. They need a little something extra to convince them.

We have that something extra. The video you see below is a special Trainwreck clip with John Cena and Amy Schumer arguing with another couple inside a movie theater.

John Cena is hilarious. Even Judd Apatow was impressed, saying, “[John Cena] said some of the strangest things I’ve ever heard.”

Check out the strangeness in the hilarious video below…

Production Begins On The “Top Secret” Lonely Island Movie, Details Inside!

Are you a fan of SNL? What about the lovely musical group, The Lonely Island? If so, we have some pretty exciting news for you. Judd Apatow just announced on his Twitter account that production on the first film made by the trio has officially started.

The producer shared the news on his Twitter account, revealing the “Top Secret” movie poster you see below..

The Lonely Island group consists of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer. They actually formed the group back in 2000 in California. Five years later, they were hired by Saturday Night Live, and were able to produce hits like “Jizz in My Pants” and “I’m on a Boat“.

So, what the heck is this movie going to be about? We’re not exactly sure. We know the film is being co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone, and we know Sarah Silverman has joined the project. She will be playing a “sharp and sarcastic” publicist who works with the character being played by Samberg.

“Not to be hyperbolic, but we are seriously zazzed about this movie.” The band said in a statement. Apatow released his own statement, revealing how excited he is…

“I have begged these fine gentlemen to allow me to produce one of their films since day one, and finally they decided my whining needed to come to an end.”

Universal will be distributing the untitled film. No release date has been announced, but we’re assuming the movie will hit theaters in 2016.

Brand New Pee-wee Herman Movie Confirmed By Netflix, Judd Apatow Attached To Project

People still love Pee-wee Herman, right? Netflix is counting on all that love still being there because they just confirmed the new feature film, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. The film will be produced by Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens.

Mr. Reubens wrote the film with Paul Rust (Arrested Development). We also learned that John Lee (Inside Amy Schumer, Broad City) will make his feature film directorial debut when production begins next month. I am a huge ‘Broad City’ fan, so I am extremely happy and excited for Lee.

This will be the third film in the franchise. It will debut exclusively on Netflix in all of its territories. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos released the following statement…

“We didn’t hesitate for a moment knowing that Pee-wee’s Big Holiday was such a passion project for Paul and Judd and we are delighted by the opportunity to introduce such a beloved character to a new generation.”

Here is the official plot synopsis for the new film:

“A fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.”

As for the man himself? Well, it’s safe to say he’s just a wee bit excited…

“Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago. The world was much different back then— Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive. I’ve changed all that. The future is here. Get used to it. Bowtie is the new black.”

First Red Band Trailer For Judd Apatow’s ‘Trainwreck’ — Does LeBron James Steal The Show?

When LeBron James gets tired of making everyone look silly on the basketball court, he may have a second career as a comedic actor. Judd Apatow, director of the upcoming comedy Trainwreck, claims Mr. James has got some serious skills.

The Hollywood Reporter talked with the director about LeBron’s guest starring role in the film. Here is what he had to say…

“We tested the movie, and he gets laughter as big as anyone. LeBron is a very strong actor, and he has a fantastic sense of humor. We do a lot of improvisation, and he was really good at it. As a result, it’s a really fun, wild, slightly strange performance that really scores.”

And that’s saying something because the hilarious Bill Hader and Amy Schumer star in the movie. As mentioned above, Judd Apatow is the director behind this film, and it’s interesting he decided to take on this monster. Typically, Apatow only directs films he helped write. This movie only has one person receiving credit for the script, and that person is Amy Schumer.

Universal Pictures just released the first trailer for the film, which is scheduled to be released July 17, 2015. The premise of Trainwreck is similar to several romantic comedies out there, except the gender roles seem to be reversed in this movie. In most romantic comedies, it’s the sex-crazed man falling in love with that special girl who makes him change his douchebag ways.

In Trainwreck, Amy Schumer shows that girls can be just as afraid of commitment. Check out the trailer down below. We’ll definitely be checking this one out.
