Ryan Reynolds And John August Set To Co-Write Netflix Comedy ‘Upstate’

Netflix has made yet another huge deal. According to multiple reports, they just made a deal with Ryan Reynolds and screenwriter John August for a feature comedy titled Upstate.

August and Reynolds will co-write the script. Reynolds is also expected to star in the film as well.

They are keeping plot under wraps. Reynolds and August will be executive producers, Reynolds through his production company Maximum Effort.

This appears to be a continuation of a beautiful friendship between Reynolds and Netflix. He has starred in two Netflix films recently. The Michael Bay flick 6 Underground and the upcoming Dwayne Johnson action film, Red Notice.

It was revealed recently that Reynolds was being paid $20 million to star in Red Notice, so yeah, you can see why he enjoys working with the streaming giant. They pay well.

Hopefully more information about this ‘Upstate’ film is revealed soon. It certainly sounds promising. Reynolds is an outstanding comedic actor and August is one of Hollywood’s top screenwriters.

Disney is keeping the live-action remakes coming. The live-action remake of the 1992 classic ‘Aladdin‘ is scheduled to hit theaters May 24, 2019.

And since we’re just six months away now, Disney decided it was time to hit us with the first teaser trailer.

Newcomer Mena Massoud has the titular role. Will Smith is taking on the role as the Genie and Marwan Kenzari will portray Jafar.

John August wrote the script for this remake, which is pretty exciting for the screenwriting nerds of the world. For those who don’t know, August is known for being very active online with the screenwriting community. He even has a podcast with fellow screenwriter Craig Mazin called Scriptnotes.

So yeah, it’s nice to see him land such a big title. We’re sure he got a nice little paycheck.

It’ll be interesting to see how fans and critics react to this movie. So far, Disney has had a lot of success with their live-action remakes. Can they keep it going?
