Watch Joaquin Phoenix In The First Full Trailer For Awards Contender “C’mon C’mon”

Mike Mills is back with his latest feature, C’mon C’mon. Mills’ last feature, 20th Century Women, was a huge hit with critics and even received a Best Screenplay nomination at the Oscars back in 2016.

It took five years, but Mills is returning to the big screen with C’mon C’mon, which stars the incredibly talented Joaquin Phoenix. The story, which was shot in black-and-white, follows a man trying to build a connection with his eccentric nephew following his mother’s death.

In addition to Phoenix, this film stars Gaby Hoffmann, Woody Norman and the underrated Scoot McNairy.

Mills directed and wrote this film, which has been receiving rave reviews from critics after premiering in the festival circuit earlier this year.

It’s set to hit theaters on November 19, and it should be a pretty special film. Many experts believe it’ll land some nominations during awards season.

Joaquin Phoenix Teaming Up With A24 For What Sounds Like An Indie Coming-Of-Age Flick?

Joaquin Phoenix is probably exhausted right now after a wildly successful awards season run. His performance in ‘Joker‘ earned him the Best Actor award at the Oscars.

How will he follow up such an incredible performance? Well, he’s working with A24.

He apparently just wrapped production on an indie flick with 20th Century Women filmmaker, Mike Mills. In the untitled drama, Phoenix reportedly plays an artist left to take care of his precocious young nephew in a cross-country road trip.

In addition to Phoenix, the movie stars Gaby Hoffman, Woody Norman and Kenneth Kynt Bryan.

Producers are Chelsea Barnard (Booksmart), Lila Yacoub (Eighth Grade) and Andrea Longacre-White (20th Century Women). Robbie Ryan (The Favourite) is DoP. We hear a script is due to be sent out to buyers this week.

According to some reports, Peter Jackson’s WETA Digital is creating special/visual effects for the movie, which is a bit odd. It sounds like a pretty straightforward indie flick. Why the need for visual effects? Perhaps there is more to this story.

They’re hoping to release the film by the end of the year.

Joaquin Phoenix Shocks Crowd At BAFTAs By Giving Powerful Speech On Racism

Joaquin Phoenix has been winning a lot of awards this season for his performance in ‘Joker‘ and he’s been using his speeches to bring awareness to important issues.

And this past weekend during the 2020 BAFTAs, Phoenix might have given his most important speech yet.

While accepting the award for Best Actor, Phoenix expressed gratitude, but also made it clear he’s had advantages some others haven’t.

I feel conflicted because so many of my fellow actors that are deserving don’t have that same privilege. I think that we send a very clear message to people of color that you’re not welcome here.

I don’t think anybody wants a handout or preferential treatment, although that’s what we give ourselves every year. I think people just want to be acknowledged, appreciated and respected for their work.

You could tell he was a little nervous while giving the speech (more nervous than he usually looks) but he continued with a powerful ending.

We have to do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism. I think it is the obligation of the people that have created and perpetuate and benefit from a system of oppression to be the ones that dismantle it.

Well done, Joaquin. Well freakin’ done.

Joaquin Phoenix Was Partly Responsible For Making The Golden Globes Go Vegan

Joaquin Phoenix is not a huge fan of awards shows. Sometimes he doesn’t even bother to show up when he’s nominated.

But this year, Phoenix decided if he was going to attend these ceremonies, he might as well influence them a bit. According to multiple insiders, Phoenix was one of the reasons the Golden Globes featured a plant-based menu last night.

As some of you may know, Phoenix is a vegan and has made it clear he believes animal agriculture is fueling climate change, which if you believe science, it is indeed.

He won the award for Best Actor (Drama) for his role in Joker, and during his speech, he thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for the plant-based menu.

First I would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change, it’s a very bold move, making tonight plant-based.

Phoenix is a weird dude, but I believe he has this one right. We don’t all have to go vegan, but we should stop consuming so much meat. You don’t need meat with every meal! You don’t even need it every day!

But hey, this is a movie blog. That’s enough preaching.

‘Joker’ Has Massive Thursday Night Preview, Brings In Over $13 Million

It looks like the ‘Joker‘ is set to have a record breaking opening weekend. The movie, starring the talented Joaquin Phoenix, had its Thursday night previews last night, and it made a record-breaking $13.3 million.

The total is $3.3 million more than the previous record for October, held by Venom, which ended up making $80 million during its opening weekend.

It’s the biggest preview number since ‘The Lion King’ pulled in $23 million in July and portends a potential record opening. ‘Joker’ has been forecast for a similarly massive debut in the $80 million to $95 million range from 4,374 North American theaters for Warner Bros.

And after Thursday night, it looks like the total could be closer to $100 million.

The film split critics. Some called it one of the greatest movies of the year, while others thought it was dangerous and could lead to more mass shootings.

The audience doesn’t appear to be as split though. The early reports have been overwhelmingly positive online. It has an incredibly high 9.2 rating on IMDb, and a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, versus a 69% rating from critics.

With positive word of mouth driving it forward, I expect to see an opening weekend very close to $100 million.

‘Joker’ Film Starring Joaquin Phoenix Could Have A Very Big Opening At The Box Office

You’ve probably been hearing a lot about the ‘Joker‘ film recently, and for good reason. It premiered at a few film festivals this past month and it’s been getting some pretty great reviews.

Joaquin Phoenix is getting Oscar buzz for his performance. Even those who didn’t like the movie say Phoenix gave an incredible performance.

And it looks like the hype is building, ’cause early tracking reports claim the movie could make up to $88 million during its opening weekend, which would be pretty significant. Yes, it’s technically a comic book film, but it’s not your standard one. This promises to be super dark.

If you’re going in expecting a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe, you’re going to be very disappointed. In fact, most critics are comparing this movie to “Taxi Driver,” which should tell you just how far off it is from your typical superhero/villain flick.

According to the reports, Joker worked with a budget of just $50 million, so even a $60 or $70 million opening would be huge.

It’s not all great news for the film, though. There are real concerns surrounding the movie…

Some complained that the movie was too slow and depressing, while others worried it sent out a disturbing message by humanizing a psychopathic killer as mass shootings are on the rise and society is increasingly alarmed by gun violence. That brewing controversy could depress box office receipts and lead to backlash.

Joker will hit theaters October 4, 2019.

Joaquin Phoenix Claims He Went A Bit Mad After Losing Over 50 Pounds For ‘Joker’ Role

If you think Joaquin Phoenix is playing the ‘Joker‘ role a little too well in the upcoming film, it might be because he was actually going mad while filming the movie.

Phoenix had to dramatically transform his body for the role. He claims to have lost a little over 50 pounds in an unhealthy amount of time.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that the dramatic weight loss messed with his mind…

The first thing for us was the weight loss – I think that’s really what I started with. It turns out that [losing a lot of weight very quickly] affects your psychology. You start to go mad.

I can imagine. To lose over 50 pounds, he must have been restricting his calories to 1200 or below, which is pretty insane for an adult male.

Thankfully, the hard work looks like it’s going to pay off for him. He’s already getting Oscar buzz for his performance in the movie, not that he really cares about the awards…but it’s still nice.

The ‘Joker’ film just premiered at the Venice Film Festival and reportedly received an eight-minute standing ovation, which sounds a little ridiculous if you ask me. I don’t care how great a movie is, I’m not going to stand there for eight minutes while slamming my hands together until they go numb.

In any event, ‘Joker’ will hit theaters October 4, 2019.

Check Out The New Disturbing Trailer For ‘Joker’ Starring Joaquin Phoenix

One of the year’s most anticipated films hits theaters in just a little over a month now.

And to celebrate, Warner Bros. decided to treat us to another trailer. The second trailer for ‘Joker‘ gives us a little more of the backstory behind Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker character.

The DC film follows Joaquin Phoenix’s depiction of Arthur as a struggling comedian in 1981 Gotham City, taking care of his mother (Frances Conroy) in a run-down apartment. Depressed and frustrated by his own professional and personal letdowns, he finally breaks before becoming the notorious cartoon villain we’re familiar with today.

The film will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this weekend, and then it’ll have a wide release on October 4, 2019.

Hopefully it doesn’t let us down, ’cause the trailers are making it look really good.
