Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons Is Moving To The Big Screen For Magic Comedy Film ‘Man-Witch’

Jim Parsons has rested comfortably for a decade now in the land of laugh tracks and social awkwardness on The Big Bang Theory. His character, Sheldon Cooper, is probably the most popular character on the show, and the success of the series has made Parsons an extremely wealthy man.

But now the 43-year-old actor is ready to step out of his comfort zone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Parsons has agreed to take on a pretty big project for Warner Bros.

He’s expected to take the lead role in a comedy film titled Man-Witch. He will also help develop the movie and work behind the camera as a producer. This project might sound familiar to some of you. The studio first picked it up back in 2005, and both Jack Black and Zach Galifianakis were set to star at some point, which is a good sign because it means the script was/is clever enough to attract some huge names in the comedy world.

THR’s description of the film sounds promising, especially for an actor like Parsons. I can already picture his character and actions in my head.

“The story tells of a schoolteacher (Parsons) who abruptly discovers he’s got witchlike powers. A coven of real witches takes him in, promptly sending him to “witch school,” where he is the lone adult, surrounded by little girl witches-in-training.”

No other information has been released yet. We’ll keep you posted though.

Movie Review: Home (2015) – Big on Humor, Big on Animation, Perfect Timing for Easter

Home is Jim Parsons’ attempt to break free from “The Big Bang Theory.” At least, that’s my best guess of why he chose to do it. Otherwise, this guy is going the way of Urkel, forever typecast as one memorable guy from TV.

The premise is this. An alien named Captain Smek (Steve Martin) becomes convinced that humans need the help of his people. His best idea is to take over the planet and relocate his race to a place in Australia. Enter Oh (Jim Parsons) a bumbling alien who sends a ‘warming of the house’ evite to everyone in the galaxy, thereby telling the mortal enemy of their race exactly where they’re going. Oh gets booted and hooks up with a human girl named Gratuity “Tip” Tucci (Rhianna) and her pet cat. Road trip hijinks ensue and everyone learns the true meaning of friendship.

There’s a lot of humor in the movie, especially from a fish out of water perspective. Oh’s poor grasp of the English language is a constant source of comic relief, as is Captain Smek’s inability to work even the most rudimentary human items. When it comes to laughs, this movie delivers.

It’s not exactly intelligent. You can see the plot twists coming from a mile away and the overall message of the movie is a bit on the nose, but I don’t take away points for that. I mean, it’s a kid’s movie, not Schindler’s List. This is not a kid’s movie that is also for adults. It’s simply a kid’s movie and I’m ok with that.

The animation speaks to it being a kid’s movie as well. The colors are all pastel and vibrant, which makes is perfect for release just in time for Easter. Everything is rounded and soft looking. There are no sharp edges in this movie, either in the animation or the story.

Jim Parsons is an adept character actor, but it feels like his character was simply an animated version of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. If he was looking to move away from that role, this was not the movie that does it. While this character is far nicer, the lack of understanding of people and motivations is extremely similar. In that area, Parsons didn’t get to show much range.

It actually reminded me a lot of Lilo and Stitch, though Oh is far smarter than Stitch but just as cute. But honestly, the premise is identical. A girl befriends an adorable alien who is a fugitive and is on the run from his own kind. The whole message is about the importance of friends and family. Despite the fact that this movie was based on a book, “The True Meaning of Smekday” it feels like it was copied from the original Lilo and Stitch script.

It’s a simplistic movie that rests on humor and good animation to earn its revenue, but it’s not a bad movie. It’s enjoyable for adults, but not exactly aimed at adults. Regardless, it’s a clever effort that children are sure to enjoy.
