Sony made a huge acquisition last October when they bought an R-rated comedy titled ‘No Hard Feelings‘ starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film, which was written/directed by Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Good Boys), is reportedly set in Montauk, New York.
Not much is known about this project, but we do know Sony battled several other studios to land it.
Sony Pictures reportedly fended off some competition from other streamers and major studios in its pursuit of the project, including interest from Stupnitsky’s ‘Good Boys’ distributor Universal Pictures. The studio secured ‘No Hard Feelings’ with the intention of giving the completed film an exclusive theatrical release. It is unknown what the official price tag on the project was.
And it looks like they’re holding true to their promise of a theatrical release because it was just announced that the film will hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
It’ll be going up against Disney/Pixar’s animated flick, Elemental, featuring the voices of Eddie Murphy and Zach Braff.
Of course, the Pixar audience will be different than the audience going to see an r-rated flick, so there should be enough room for both films.
We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out.
Adam McKay and Jennifer Lawrence just completed the satirical science fiction film ‘Don’t Look Up‘ and apparently they really liked working together, because they’re teaming up once again.
It was announced this week that Apple Original Films will finance and distribute McKay’s upcoming drama ‘Bad Blood’ which is about the shocking rise and fall of Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes.
Jennifer Lawrence will star in the film, which was originally set up with Legendary back in 2016. Currently, the subject of this movie, Holmes, is nearing the end of her very real trial on charges of defrauding investors and patients on claims she made about her blood testing startup.
Holmes’ Silicon Valley blood testing startup catapulted the Stanford dropout to short-lived status as the youngest and richest self-made billionaire as shares of Theranos became the darling of the venture capital set. It all came tumbling down after an expose by former WSJ investigative reporter John Carreyrou.
Definitely sounds like a project McKay can deliver on. We’re assuming Lawrence will star as Holmes, so that should be very interesting. Lawrence will also join the project as a producer.
No word on when filming is expected to begin, but we’ll keep you posted.
The upcoming dark comedy ‘Don’t Look Up‘ from Adam McKay has been on my radar all year long. I’ve been waiting (and waiting!) for the first trailer, and finally it has arrived.
The film, which is set to premiere on Netflix and select theaters in December, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Rob Morgan as a trio of stressed out scientists trying to warn the world and its leaders about an impending asteroid impact, which will end life on Earth as we know it.
The only problem with this? No one seems to care, which is probably a little jab at how our leaders are currently treating the climate change crisis.
In this teaser trailer, Leo’s character appears to have multiple panic attacks. Jonah Hill steals the show in this trailer as the chief of staff. The back-and-forth between him, Leo and Lawrence looks incredibly entertaining.
In addition the main cast listed above, this movie will feature performances by Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Meryl Streep and Ron Perlman.
Check out the trailer below. It’ll hit select theaters on December 10, followed by a release on Netflix on December 24.
Last year, Jennifer Lawrence starred in one of the more polarizing films of the year, Mother!, the movie scored a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and quickly became that move you either hated or loved. There was no middle ground. I watched the film, and I truly believe it would be impossible to walk out of the theater thinking, “Hm. That was okay, I guess.”
And it looks like Lawrence’s next movie, Red Sparrow, could be the same way. It won’t hit theaters for another two weeks, but critics were able to watch an early screening of it this week, and while most reviews were incredibly positive, some did give the warning that the general audience might hate it.
Check out some of the Twitter reviews below…
Red Sparrow is a film that should be on your radar. It doesn’t pull punches as a spy thriller, featuring some hard-to-watch brutality, but it’s also immensely timely in its exploration of exploitation. Could easily become a new franchise for Jennifer Lawrence. pic.twitter.com/qpxX7IaGvB
RED SPARROW was absolutely gripping. I loved it. Jennifer Lawrence totally goes for it in a way few A-list actress could or would. It’s spellbinding and damn near Hitchcockian. A real film for adults. THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A MOVIE!
RED SPARROW: It is not what you’re expecting. A queasy upbraiding of people in positions of power (not just political) exploiting the sexuality of women, and getting it thrown gloriously back in their faces. Gruesome torture scenes, and a bone break that will haunt me forever.
I was legit shocked at how good RED SPARROW is (where the shit has *this* Francis Lawrence been hiding?) a delectably slow, incredibly violent, and sweet as hell spy movie for the current Cold War. audiences are gonna haaaaate it pic.twitter.com/59GP9BSy7o
Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky fell in love while making ‘mother!‘ and now it looks like they fell out of love while promoting it. As most of you know, the two stars dated for a year, but it was announced last week that they recently decided to end things.
And during the annual Actors on Actors interview series, Lawrence may have revealed why they couldn’t make things work following the release of their bizarre film.
She sat down with Adam Sandler, and they both talked about how they try to avoid reading any reviews about their movies, especially the negative reviews. mother! received mixed reviews from critics, and that’s putting it nicely. It was obviously a shock to see such a negative reaction to the movie, but Lawrence didn’t want to spend time thinking about it. She loved the movie, and that’s all she cared about.
“We’d be on the tour together, I’d come back to the hotel and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is the movie, and he comes back and that’s all he wants to talk about. I was doing double duty of trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about ‘mother!’ for one second?’”
They also didn’t agree on the correct way to promote the movie. Aronofsky wanted the audience to go in cold. He didn’t want them to know anything about the movie.
Lawrence does not agree with that…
“Some think: don’t tell anyone anything, let them figure it out on their own. I feel like it’s better to know and understand the metaphor and allegories because then you know what you are looking at. I’ve been spilling the themes and metaphors all over town!”
Jennifer Lawrence might be one of the busiest stars in Hollywood, but that doesn’t mean she’ll pass up the opportunity to have a little fun. She was the guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night, and in addition to interviewing her favorite celebrity, she also went out on the streets to ask a bunch of strangers to name five of her movies.
Surprisingly, there weren’t a lot of people who could do it. In fact, some of the people didn’t even know who she was. The game could have easily been won by naming all the Hunger Games movies, and then Silver Linings Playbook.
But to be fair, it’s not easy to think when a camera is right in front of your face and an A-List Hollywood star is standing next to you. Thankfully, Lawrence has never been afraid to make fun of herself, so the whole thing is pretty hilarious.
It reminds of the time Billy Eichner asked someone to simply name a woman…
The ugly truth behind the glitzy mask of Hollywood continues to ooze out. Hollywood has treated women poorly for too long, and now for the first time, the women are joining together and speaking out.
During ELLE’s Women in Hollywood event on Monday, Jennifer Lawrence talked about how a female producer forced her to do a nude lineup with five women who were much thinner than she was at the time.
“And, during this time, a female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me. And we all stood side-by-side with only paste-ons covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”
And when she asked to speak to another producer about the unrealistic diet requirements, he responded by telling her he didn’t know why everyone wanted her to lose weight, because to him, she was “perfectly f**kable.”
During another film, Lawrence was asked to lose 15 pounds in two weeks, and at the time, she felt trapped because she did not have any power in the business. She was still young.
“I couldn’t have gotten a producer or a director or a studio head fired. I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt like I had to for my career. I was young and walking that fine line of sticking up for myself without being called difficult, which they did call me, but I believe the word they used was ‘nightmare.'”
Darren Aronofsky’s ‘mother!‘ film caused a lot of ruckus this past weekend. Some people refused to watch it simply because it had Jennifer Lawrence in it. Donald Trump supporters currently hate her because she may or may not have blamed the recent hurricanes on Trump. (spoiler: she didn’t, people just can’t read)
The people who did watch the film were extremely disappointed because they felt like the trailer promised a mainstream horror movie. Some reports claim people even walked out in the middle of the movie.
All this caused the movie to have a terrible opening weekend. It opened with just $7.5 million, and that’s not good at all because the budget was close to $30 million.
But still, we have to send out some mad respect to Paramount for giving this film a chance. We always complain when studios release sequel after sequel, remake after remake, prequel after prequel, so when they take a chance with a truly original piece of work, we can’t be angry with them.
Especially when they defend their directors like this. During an interview with Indiewire, the studio’s worldwide president of marketing and distribution, Megan Colligan, praised Darren and revealed they have no regrets.
“This movie is very audacious and brave. You are talking about a director at the top of his game, and an actress at the top her game. They made a movie that was intended to be bold. Everyone wants original filmmaking, and everyone celebrates Netflix when they tell a story no one else wants to tell. This is our version. We don’t want all movies to be safe. And it’s okay if some people don’t like it.”
Since 2010, Jennifer Lawrence has not had a lot of free time. She has starred in over 14 films in the past seven years, which averages out to be two movies a year. That means she films for 2-3 months, promotes the movie for another month or two, then films another movie…repeat process.
And now it looks like she’s finally ready to take a break. During an interview with The Today Show, the 27-year-old actress revealed she’s planning on taking a break from acting, “I’m taking a break. I don’t have anything set for two years,” she said.
So what will she be doing during these two years? Well, we know she won’t be starting a family. Even though she appears to be infatuated with her boyfriend/director Darren Aronofsky, she does not want to have kids with him…or anybody else.
She told E! News that being a mother doesn’t sound appealing to her right now. She was asked if she was feeling “the pangs of motherhood as she gets older,” and this was her response:
“Not at all. They are actually getting less and less as I get older, which is starting to worry me. I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to work! When I was 21 or 22 I was like, ‘I can’t wait to be a mother. Now I’m like…[shocked face].”
That’s fine with us. We’ll take more movies over more babies any day. Speaking of movies, you can check out J-Law in a theater near you this weekend in the psychological thriller, mother!
Jennifer Lawrence has been at the top of the World’s Highest-Paid Actress list for a while now, but this year she was dethroned by Emma Stone.
According to Forbes, the 28-year-old actress made $26 million pretax this past year. A large portion of that coming from her work on La La Land (which also won her a Best Actress Oscar) and her most recent film, Battle of the Sexes.
Second on the list is Jennifer Aniston, surprisingly. She earned a nice paycheck for her work in the film Yellow Birds, and she has several endorsement deals. If you’ve watched television lately, there is a strong possibility that you’ve seen her in a commercial or two. She made $25.5 million this past year.
Lawrence was third on the list with $24 million, thanks to her work in ‘Mother!’ and her longstanding deal with Dior. Melissa McCarthy came in at number four on the list with $18 million and Mila Kunis was at number five with $15.5 million.
Just last month, Stone talked about the gender pay disparity in Hollywood. She revealed that some of her male co-stars have taken pay cuts to ensure pay equality.
“That’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair. That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily — that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, ‘That’s what’s fair,’ If my male co-star, who has a higher quote than me but believes we are equal, takes a pay cut so that I can match him, that changes my quote in the future and changes my life.”
