Idris Elba Set To Star In Christmas-Revenge Flick ‘Stay Frosty’

Well, we’re super excited for this one. Warner Bros. is celebrating today after winning a pretty insane spec auction for the script, Stay Frosty, written by Tyler Marceca.

The studio will pay over $1 million for the script, which is big money these days for a spec script.

Idris Elba is attached to star and Sam Hargrave is set to direct.

After miraculously surviving a bullet to the head, a man has to figure out who wants him dead and why. He needs to stop the assassin while still making it back home in time to spend Christmas with his son.

They’re hoping to build a John Wick-type franchise, with the feel of an 80s action film like Die Hard.

It sounds like it has the potential to be a pretty entertaining flick, especially with Elba starring in it.

No word on when filming might begin, but it likely won’t start until the winter or possibly even 2022. I wouldn’t expect to see this film in theaters until Christmas 2022, at the earliest.

But hey, I think it’s going to be worth the wait. Also, what a bada** title…Stay Frosty. I love it.

Amazon Studios Picks Up John Cena/Idris Elba Action Film ‘Heads Of State’

Well, it’s time for celebration for screenwriter Harrison Query. He and his author brother Matthew have blown up this past year. Back in June, they landed a seven-figure deal for the project My Wife and I Bought A Ranch.

Netflix made the deal after Matthew wrote a short story on Reddit, which went viral and ended up having six parts. Harrison will be writing the screenplay.

And it looks like that deal opened the door for Harrison, because now he just landed another seven-figure deal. Amazon Studios just made a deal for the upcoming action film Heads of State, starring John Cena and Idris Elba.

The project was sold after a Zoom pitch presentation with the actors, screenwriter Harrison Query, and the producers (The Safran Company’s Peter Safran and John Rickard). The actors are finalizing, and this was a high six figure against low seven figure deal for the writer.  Amazon moved quickly to halt the pitching process and take Heads of State off the table.

Deadline reports that plot details are being kept under wraps, but they do know it’s a ” ’90s style two-hander, a high octane premise that has a bit of Air Force One meets Hobbs and Shaw.”

No word on when filming might begin, but we’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, Harrison will search for his next seven-figure deal.

Idris Elba Is Still In Quarantine After Testing Positive For Coronavirus

As you probably heard last week, Idris Elba tested positive for coronavirus. He made a video to let his fans know and to spread the message of social distancing and staying home.

At the time, Elba had very minor symptoms. He had a headache at one point and some fatigue, but nothing serious at all.

And thankfully one week later, it’s still the same. He posted an update on Twitter and admitted he hopes to return to London soon…

That immunity/antibody test could be huge for the future. If we’re able to see who is immune, then those people can go back to work, take care of people, etc. I know there are several countries working on a test, so hopefully it will be available soon.

And hopefully immunity lasts a significant amount of time. Typically, with coronaviruses (for example, the common cold) immunity lasts 6-12 months. But some doctors believe it’ll be longer with this strain, maybe up to two years, as was the case with SARS back in 2002-2003.

Idris Elba Will Replace Will Smith As Deadshot In Upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

We told you last month that Will Smith would not be returning as Deadshot for the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad‘ sequel. He claimed it was because of a scheduling conflict, which I suppose we are forced to believe.

Production on the film is scheduled to begin this fall, so the studio had to rush to find a replacement, and it looks like they found a great one.

According to a report from Variety, Idris Elba will be taking over Smith’s role.

It’s currently unknown who will be joining Elba in the sequel, though many believe Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn. James Gun was tapped to write and direct the film. The release date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.

As we reported in our original story last month, the studio was really hoping both Smith and Robbie would return. They’ve already lost Smith, so we have to imagine they’re fighting hard for Robbie.

Elba will be a busy man this year. He’s starring in the upcoming Netflix series ‘Turn Up Charlie‘ and the ‘Fast & Furious‘ spinoff Hobbs & Shaw.

Idris Elba And Tilda Swinton Both On Board For George Miller’s ‘Three Thousand Years Of Longing’

At 73-years-old, George Miller is still going strong. Three years after the wild success of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,” Miller is returning to write/direct a film titled Three Thousand Years of Longing.

And he’s going to have an incredible cast to work with. We know that both Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton have agreed to star in the film.

Not much is known about the mysterious epic, but according to Deadline it’s “said to be unlike anything the filmmaker has done before,” which will either make you excited or terrified. I mean, the dude’s last two films were Mad Max and and Happy Feet Two, so what hasn’t he done?

Some sources say this movie will be a love story featuring a genie, but I’m not sure if that’s been confirmed yet.

We will keep you posted as more information is released. Keep your eyes out for this one, folks. It could be something special.

By the way, Elba is currently filming the ‘Fast & Furious‘ spinoff ‘Hobbs and Shaw‘ with Dwayne Johnson. You can find Swinton in the fantasy/thriller, Suspiria.

Idris Elba’s Next Project Will Be Film Titled ‘Ghetto Cowboy’ Get The Details Inside!

Can’t get enough of Idris Elba? Well, we got some good news for you. You’ll be able to find the 45-year-old actor in the upcoming film, Ghetto Cowboy.

The movie is based on the award-winning novel by Greg Neri, and it has the potential to do some damage at the Oscars. I know it’s EXTREMELY early to say, considering filming hasn’t even started, but the story is just that good.

“The pic follows 15-year-old Cole, who’s forced to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philadelphia, where, despite the surrounding poverty and violence, he discovers the redemptive world of urban horseback riding.”

Ricky Staub will be making his feature directorial debut with this film, and Elba can’t wait to work with him.

“Ricky and Dan’s brilliant script combines the energy and grit of an urban movie with the poetry and romance of the urban cowboy way of life.”

We can’t wait to see the finished product. No word on when this film might be released, but we will keep you posted.

Idris Elba Will Reportedly Play The Main Villain In Upcoming ‘Fast & Furious’ Spinoff Starring Dwayne Johnson

What does the world need more of right now? Love? Peace? Ramen? Yes, yes, and oh hell yes.

What does the world need less of right now? Fast & Furious movies. In fact, we don’t just need less of them, we need to go back in time and erase the last three or four.

Sadly, we can’t do that. Hollywood loves a good action flick and they’re getting another one with the upcoming ‘Hobbs and Shaw‘ film, which is a Fast & Furious spinoff.

The movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles as special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw.

And every good action movie needs a villain, right? Well we are now hearing that Idris Elba is in final negotiations to play the main villain in the movie. Not much else is known, but we know production is scheduled to begin in the fall, so we’re sure this deal will be finalized soon.

We will keep you posted. In the meantime, go write a letter to your local government official and urge them to stop the production of Fast & Furious installments.

They’re ruining the environment.

Movie Review: Zootopia – Earns Every Bit of the Critics Praise

videothumbnail_zootopia_officialtrailer_disney_a4d0f4ce - 22MAR2016

It’s very rare that you see a movie that manages to universally please critics the way the Zootopia has. I have to say I’m a bit surprised, as Disney’s latest effort earned its praise.

Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), a bunny, grows up on a carrot farm with her conventional parents and 225 bunny brothers and sisters. Showing large reserves of empathy and kindness, she springs into action when a bully turns aggressive in a schoolyard. Judy’s mother and father are taken aback when she decides to leave for the city to become a cop. At the police academy, this tiny rookie has trouble with physical prowess exercises but through her immense will power and wit eventually graduates at the top of her class. Eager to hit the streets and do her law-and-order thing, Judy is disappointed when Bogo (Idris Elba), police chief, orders her to hand out parking tickets. Still wanting to prove that she is better than any other rookie on the force, she writes 200 tickets before noon. Eventually, Judy gets the chance to shine when she’s allowed to investigate the mystery of a missing otter, with the help of conniving fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman).

ZOOTOPIA-01 - 22MAR2016

The unique storyline is both adorable and complex enough to create something new and fresh. This is not a premise I’ve seen before, that I can say for sure. Despite that, it works. It’s clever and cute and smart enough for adults to enjoy too.

The message is subtle, especially for a Disney film, in that it makes Judy’s abilities not about her strength or athleticism but instead her cleverness and determination. It’s a good message for kids that they don’t try to nail us over the head with.

Of course, it’s Disney so the computer generated animation is flawlessly executed and adorable. In that department, Disney rarely strikes out. It’s worth seeing in 3D, as it’s a good looking film with lots of creative and imaginative scenery.

zootopia_still_6 - 22MAR2016

The creativity comes into play with the creation of Zootopia, the mammal centric city where predatory instincts are gone and animals live like humans. You can see a spark of Disney’s old school imaginative style in this film.

Also, it’s smart enough for adults to enjoy too. The screenplay writers threw in a few clever quips just for mom and dad, making this an animated feature that the whole family can enjoy.

This is a clear hit and a clear winner for Disney. This animated film has the intelligence to keep adults audiences watching, with all the same appeal of Disney for the kids, so they can also cash in on the merchandising. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that a film starring a bunny came out so close to Easter.

But Disney’s goal of world domination through movie revenues aside, this is a fantastic film that is sure to be fun for the whole family. I’d call this one an absolutely worth the watch, regardless  if you have children or not.

WE GIVE IT: 4.5 STARS!
