It was an extremely successful weekend for Jennifer Lopez and the rest of the ‘Hustlers‘ crew. The female-led drama/thriller opened in over 3,000 theaters across the country this weekend, and it brought in $33.2 million.
That’s a cool $7 or $8 million more than the experts were predicting.
This is Lopez’s best live-action opening…by far. Her previous top film was ‘Monster-in-Law‘ which earned around $23 million during its opening weekend.
Hustlers, which is based on a New York Magazine article follows a band of former strippers, led by Lopez’s Ramona, who come together to turn the tables on their Wall Street Clients.
The movie was written/directed by Lorene Scafaria, the writer behind Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.
Not only was this film a hit with the audience, it has also been a hit with the critics, scoring a solid 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some people even say Lopez could earn an Oscar nomination for her performance in the film.
I watched the movie last night, and personally, I think Constance Wu should be the one getting Oscar buzz. Don’t get me wrong, Lopez was great (better than she’s ever been) but Wu was freaking amazing. It wouldn’t have been the same movie without her.
If you haven’t watched ‘Hustlers’ yet, check it out this week. It’s a lot of fun.
