Jennifer Lopez Has Her Biggest Box Office Opening Ever With ‘Hustlers’

It was an extremely successful weekend for Jennifer Lopez and the rest of the ‘Hustlers‘ crew. The female-led drama/thriller opened in over 3,000 theaters across the country this weekend, and it brought in $33.2 million.

That’s a cool $7 or $8 million more than the experts were predicting.

This is Lopez’s best live-action opening…by far. Her previous top film was ‘Monster-in-Law‘ which earned around $23 million during its opening weekend.

Hustlers, which is based on a New York Magazine article follows a band of former strippers, led by Lopez’s Ramona, who come together to turn the tables on their Wall Street Clients.

The movie was written/directed by Lorene Scafaria, the writer behind Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

Not only was this film a hit with the audience, it has also been a hit with the critics, scoring a solid 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some people even say Lopez could earn an Oscar nomination for her performance in the film.

I watched the movie last night, and personally, I think Constance Wu should be the one getting Oscar buzz. Don’t get me wrong, Lopez was great (better than she’s ever been) but Wu was freaking amazing. It wouldn’t have been the same movie without her.

If you haven’t watched ‘Hustlers’ yet, check it out this week. It’s a lot of fun.

Jennifer Lopez…OSCAR NOMINEE? It’s Possible, Thanks To Her Performance In ‘Hustlers’

Jennifer Lopez is great at a lot of things. She can sing, dance, she’s a savvy businesswoman, but acting has never been her strongest talent. She’s not a BAD actress. It’s not like Michael Jordan trying to play baseball, but still…it’s not what she’s known for.

That could be changing soon though, thanks to her performance in the upcoming film, Hustlers. The movie debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival this past week, and it’s receiving great reviews.

It currently sits at a comfortable 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and most critics believe Lopez gave the performance of her career.

The Hollywood Reporter writes…

In short, and obviously depending upon what other films emerge this season, I feel good about Lopez’s prospects — she would be only the fifth Latina lead actress Oscar nominee — and wouldn’t rule out a screenplay or even a picture nom, either, given how much the Academy and society has changed over the last few years.

Critics say Lopez carries this film, which is saying a lot because it has a ridiculously talented cast.

Hustlers will hit theaters this weekend, so go check it out for yourself. Does Lopez deserve an Oscar nom?

Jennifer Lopez’s Strip Club Drama With Cardi B Has A Release Date, And It’s Soon!

Well, damn. Hollywood is moving fast these days, huh? It was just announced a few weeks ago that filming had begun on Jennifer Lopez’s strip club drama, Hustlers.

The movie, which is inspired by a New York Magazine article, follows a group of savvy strippers who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street Clients.

In addition to Lopez, this film is set to star Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer and Constance Wu.

We thought the movie wouldn’t hit theaters until 2020, but Lopez just went on her Instagram account to announce the movie would premiere on September 13, 2019.

As you can see in the clip above, they’re still filming the movie. September is just five months away!

Cardi B, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart And Julia Stiles Set To Star In Strip Club Drama ‘Hustlers’

No one knows the strip club world better than Cardi B, and now her knowledge of the industry has landed her a role in the upcoming ‘Hustlers‘ film.

The movie, which is being directed by Lorene Scafaria, will star Cardi, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez.

Filming is set to begin in New York on March 22..

The project, originally set up at Annapurna as ‘Hustlers at Scores,’ is inspired by a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler. It’s set in New York City in the wake of the financial crisis and follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

That’s a pretty powerful group of women working on this movie. This could be huge.

No word on a release date, but it’ll likely be in 2020. It’s going to be interesting to see Cardi make her film debut, although, I’m assuming she’ll have no problem with it. She puts on an act all the time when she’s on talk shows, and as we mentioned above, she started off as a stripper, so the role won’t be a stretch.

We’ll keep you posted as more details are released.
