Watch Good Ol’ Winona Ryder In First Trailer For Horror Film ‘Gone in the Night’

Do you want to take a ride on the Winona Ryder train? Hop in, ’cause we’re headed straight to horror town!

The ‘Stranger Things‘ actress is set to star in the upcoming horror film, Gone in the Night, which was previously titled The Cow.

Vertical will release the film in select theaters on July 15, followed by a VOD release on August 2.

Upon arriving at a remote cabin in the redwoods, Kath (Ryder) and her boyfriend (Gallagher Jr., 38) find a mysterious young couple (Teague, 23, and Tju, 24) already there — the rental has apparently been double-booked. And with nowhere else to go, they decide to share the cabin with these strangers. When her boyfriend disappears with the young woman, Kath becomes obsessed with finding an explanation for their sudden breakup.

Honestly, that sounds like an intriguing premise. Certainly good enough to order up on a boring Saturday night to enjoy over a slice of pizza.

In addition to Ryder, this movie will star John Gallagher Jr., Owen Teague, Dermot Mulroney and Brianne Tju.

Gone in the Night was directed by Eli Horowitz, who also co-wrote the script alongside Matthew Derby. For those who don’t know, Horowitz is the co-creator of the Amazon Prime series, Homecoming.

‘TikTok’ Star Charli D’Amelio Set To Make Feature Film Debut In Upcoming Horror-Thriller ‘Home School’

So you wanna be an actor? Try TikTok first! Charli D’Amelio, a 17-year-old TikTok star who has earned over 139 million followers on the platform, has just landed her first acting gig in a feature film.

She has signed on to the supernatural horror-thriller ‘Home School’

In Home School, D’Amelio will play Mira, a 17-year-old who moves to a different town to live with her aunt after her mother passes away. After arriving in what seems like the all-too-perfect town, Mira soon discovers that her mother’s death and her own future are intertwined supernaturally.

The movie is being directed by ‘Rings‘ filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez. And get this, they’re hoping this film sparks an eight-film franchise of thrillers starring Charli, so you know, they’re going big with this one.

Charli had this to say about the script:

As soon as I read Home School, I knew it was for me. I connected with the character, Mira, the story, the script, and the team. I knew if I was going to do a movie, it needed to be something fun, edgy, and fresh. While the role will certainly be challenging and push me to learn to act and become Mira, it’s a fun ride and meant to be fun to make and fun to watch.

Production on the film is set to begin in July. No word on a potential release date, but we’re assuming it’ll be released in 2023, although there is a small chance it gets released this fall. I feel like that would be too much of a rush though.

Watch The Full Trailer For COVID Horror Film ‘Dashcam’ From Blumhouse

A new horror film titled ‘Dashcam‘ will surely spark some heated debate online, thanks in large part to its subject matter.

The movie is set during the early days of the pandemic, and follows an “indulgent and self-deluded improv musician” who steals her ex-band mate’s car and makes the wrong decision to give a ride to an elderly woman who is not what she seems.

According to the reports, this found footage horror flick is about a “noxious pandemic denier,” so that will probably raise some eyebrows.

Dashcam was produced by Jason Blum and Douglas Cox. Rob Savage directed the film, based on a script he co-wrote with Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd.

The indie horror flick stars Annie Hardy, Amar Chadha-Patel and Seylan Baxter. It’s scheduled to hit select theaters and be released on demand on June 3.

Pete Davidson Set To Star In Upcoming Horror-Thriller ‘The Home’ For Miramax

Pete Davidson has been the headline king in recent months, thanks in large part to his steamy relationship with Kim Kardashian. In the world we live in today, publicity is almost always a good thing. Some people will enter relationships just to put their name out there.

We’re not saying Pete is doing that, but we are saying he’s probably getting more offers because of his relationship with Kim.

It was announced this week that the 28-year-old comedian/actor will star in the upcoming Miramax horror-thriller ‘The Home‘ which is being directed by James DeMonaco, the filmmaker behind The Purge.

In ‘The Home’ Davidson will play a troubled dude named Max, who starts working at a retirement home and realizes its residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets.

As he investigates the building and its forbidden fourth floor, he starts to uncover connections to his own past and upbringing as a foster child.

Production on the flick is set to begin later this month, which means Kim and Pete will probably be seeing less of each other for a few weeks.

DeMonaco certainly knows how to create a successful horror franchise, so we’ll see what we can do with this story. No word on a potential release date.

Emma Roberts And Michael Shannon Set To Star In Upcoming Horror-Thriller Film ‘Abandoned’

Actor/Filmmaker Spencer Squire has just wrapped his first feature as a director, and he had a pretty incredible cast to help him do it.

It was revealed this week that filming on the upcoming horror-thriller ‘Abandoned‘ recently wrapped. The film stars Emma Roberts, John Gallagher Jr. and two-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon.

Abandoned follows a mother, father, and infant son as they move into a remote farmhouse, which harbors a dark, tragic history. As their home’s past is revealed, the mother’s fragility escalates to a state of psychosis that jeopardizes her own safety and that of her newborn son.

The movie, which sounds low budget, was fully financed through the partnership between Vertical Entertainment and Three Point Capital.

In a joint statement, the companies had this to say…

Abandoned begins a new chapter for Vertical Entertainment and Three Point Capital and we could not be more excited to be partnered together on this journey. As we successfully did with Abandoned, our financing strategy moving forward will be hyper-focused on the symmetry of art and commerce making sure that the ratio of story, talent (both in front of and behind the camera) and spend equates to a fantastic consumer experience that is beneficial to both Vertical’s and Three Point’s bottomline.

No word on when this movie is expected to be released, but we’re assuming it might have a release date in 2022, maybe around Halloween?

In the meantime, you can catch Emma Roberts in the upcoming Marius Balchunas film, About Fate.

Watch The First Trailer For The Latest M. Night Shyamalan Horror Film ‘Old’

Are you ready for another M. Night Shyamalan masterpiece? Well, hopefully ‘Old’ will be it. After stumbling a bit with the release of ‘Glass’ in 2019, Shyamalan is hoping his new project will get him back on track.

‘Old’ is described as a horror flick with the intriguing premise, “what if a group of beachgoers started rapidly aging for no apparent reason?”

The film is inspired by the graphic novel Sandcastle, which was written by Pierre Oscar Levy.

Old follows a group of beachgoers who discover a perfect secret beach — except for the fact that they seem to be trapped there, and rapidly aging by the minute

Shyamalan secured a pretty impressive cast for this movie. It stars Thomasin McKenzie, Alex Wolff, Eliza Scanlen and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Believe it or not, this film is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2021, so you don’t have much longer to wait. I don’t remember hearing much about it, so maybe it’ll be a nice surprise.

Check Out The First Trailer For Horror Feature ‘The Night House’

Director David Bruckner continues to make a name for himself in Hollywood. He directed the 2017 horror-thriller, The Ritual, which premiered on Netflix and received mostly positive reviews from critics.

Now, he has teamed up with Searchlight Pictures for his latest horror film, The Night House.

The movie stars Rebecca Hall as a grieving widow named Beth.

Beth (Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her, trying her best to keep herself together—but then the dreams come. Disturbing visions of a presence in the house call to her, beckoning with a ghostly allure, but the harsh light of day washes away any proof of a haunting. Against the advice of her friends, she begins digging into his belongings, yearning for answers, only to find secrets both strange and terrible and a mystery she’s determined to resolve.

Sounds a little confusing, but the the trailer sets up everything pretty well.

The movie premiered at Sundance last year and it was loved by just about everyone who watched it, so we’re excited to check it out.

It’s set to hit theaters July 16, 2021. Hopefully you’ll have a vaccinated friend who can go with you to this movie, ’cause you might need a hand to hold.

Horror Film To Watch Out For? Magnolia Lands U.S. Rights To Swedish Horror Flick ‘The Other Side’

It was just announced last week that Magnolia acquired U.S. rights to the Swedish horror film, The Other Side.

The movie, which is the debut feature from the directing team of Oskar Mellander and Tord Danielsson, opened last year in Sweden and ranked as one of the top three movies at the local box office.

The Other Side follows a family of three — Shirin, her partner Fredrik and his 5-year old son — who move into a small-town duplex and begin to hear mysterious noises from a supposedly uninhabited part of the house. Shirin comes to realize that they are haunted by an evil that only she can stop

It stars Dilan Gwyn and Linus Wahlgren. It was nominated for three awards back in Sweden’s top awards show. It won for best sound.

No word on when Magnolia plans to release the film here in the states, but we’ll keep you posted.

The Other Side is produced by Gila Bergqvist Ulfung for Breidablick Films, with support from the Swedish Film Institute and SVT and co-produced by Gotland’s Film Fund and NonStop Entertainment.

Ethan Hawke Joining Blumhouse Horror Flick ‘The Black Phone’

Ethan Hawke worked with Blumhouse and director Scott Derrickson back in 2012 on the supernatural horror film, Sinister. The partnership worked out well, with the film getting rave reviews from critics and making nearly $90 million at the box office against a budget of just $3 million.

And now, the team is getting back together to create a new horror flick. It was just announced that Hawke will team up with Blumhouse and Derrickson again for the upcoming film, The Black Phone.

This project is reportedly adapted from a short story by Joe Hill, and the teaser for the short story can be found below:

John Finney is locked in a basement that’s stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is an antique telephone, long since disconnected, but which rings at night with calls from the dead. . . .

Sounds intriguing, yeah? The story sounds pretty contained, so we’re not sure if Hawke will have a starring role or not. The only other cast member that’s been announced so far is Anthony Davies.

C. Robert Cargill wrote the script for this project. He was also the co-writer for ‘Sinister’ so they really got the whole team back together for this one.

Filming is set to begin in February in North Carolina, so it’s possible it gets released this fall.

‘District 9’ Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp Secretly Made A Supernatural Horror Film During The Pandemic

Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp hasn’t released a feature film since the 2015 sci-fi/action flick, Chappie, which received mostly negative reviews from critics.

Now five years later, Blomkamp is ready to make a return to the land of features.

According to a new report, the 41-year-old director secretly filmed a supernatural horror film in British Columbia over the summer.

We understand Blomkamp and AGC hatched a plan to make a more nimble production in the meantime in the wilds of Canada’s most westernmost province. Plot details are being kept under wraps on the project but we hear it is something the filmmaker had always wanted to make and is expected to be finished around spring next year.

So it looks like it could be released next Halloween, if all goes according to plan.

Blomkamp was set to direct the action-thiller ‘The Inferno’ with Taylor Kitsch this year, but the pandemic pushed the project back.

The report also states that this untitled horror flick is largely made up of Canadian actors and has a strong sci-fi and VFX component.

We’ll keep you posted as more details are released.
