Sony Pictures is currently under attack. They were victims of a widespread hack that not only disabled employee messaging, but also resulted in the illegal release of at least five of the company’s films.
Screeners of, ‘Annie,’ ‘Fury,’ ‘Mr. Turner,’ ‘Still Alice’ and ‘To Write Love on Her Arms’ were leaked to several piracy sites. This, of course, has Sony Pictures scrambling to find out who was behind this recent hack.
A representative for Sony released the following statement,
“The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it.”
Here is where things get interesting. As most of you know, the North Korean government is not pleased with Sony’s upcoming film, The Interview. The film stars James Franco and Seth Rogen, and their characters are involved in a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Back in June, a North Korea spokesperson had this to say about the film…
“The act of making and screening such a movie that portrays an attack on our top leadership … is a most wanton act of terror and act of war, and is absolutely intolerable.”
This is why some people believe North Korea had something to do with the initial hack. U.S. Officials are now investigating the incident.
