The upcoming ‘Dune’ film is perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year. It seems like everyone is talking about it. The remake, adapted from Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and many more.
A teaser trailer for this flick was previously released, but now this week, Warner Bros. has blessed us all with the full trailer.
The trailer includes plenty of fight scenes, including hand to hand, mass warfare and space combat. And of course, a shot of the gargantuan sandworms that inhabit Dune and are feared by all.
So if you’re like me, and you’re not familiar with the work of Dune, you may want a description of what to expect, right?
Don’t worry, we have you covered:
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, ‘Dune’ tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence — a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential — only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
And if you’re like me and still have no idea what the hell it’s about, even after reading that description, well…I can’t help you.
Dune was directed by the incredibly talented Denis Villeneuve. It’s set to hit theaters (and HBO MAX) on October 22, 2021.
We thought early on in this pandemic that big movies would return to theaters in November/December. Theaters were counting on these movies to be released then, but now they’re being delayed at a rapid pace.
It was revealed a few days ago that the upcoming James Bond film ‘No Time To Die‘ was being pushed back until April 2021. It was originally going to be released this November.
And now we’re hearing that ‘Dune‘ has also been delayed. The sci-fi epic from Denis Villeneuve was supposed to be released on December 18, but now it won’t hit theaters until October 1, 2021.
This date is pretty significant because it’s also the scheduled release date for Warner Bros. ‘The Batman’ film, which was also pushed back due to COVID-19.. Some people are speculating that ‘The Batman’ could be pushed back again.
And this is something to watch in 2021. You have all these huge films set for a 2021 release date now, but are they all going to fit? I mean, it’ll be a good problem to have. If that’s our biggest issue come 2021, then we’ll be in great shape.
As of right now, there are only a few big films still sticking to their 2020 release dates, including Wonder Woman 1984, which is still scheduled to be released on Christmas.
Additionally, Ryan Reynolds‘ action-comedy ‘Free Guy’ is set to hit theaters on December 11.
We’ll see how long they stay committed to those dates.
As we’ve mentioned before, Timothee Chalamet is one of Hollywood’s most talented young actors. He has the potential to be the next Leonardo DiCaprio, which is a pretty big deal because Hollywood is in desperate need of the next star. Leo, Pitt…they are aging, but thankfully we have stars like Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan coming up.
Chalamet’s next big film is Denis Villenueve’s Dune, a film adaptation of the 1965 science fiction novel of the same name. Of course, it’s not the first adaptation of the written work, but fans are hoping it turns out to be the best.
The 1965 book was so seismic in its influence that its echoes still turn up in sci-fi and fantasy storytelling half a century later. Still, it has stubbornly defied appropriate adaptation itself.
Chalamet is playing Paul Atreides in the movie, and this week we were delighted with the first image showing him in character.
The noble Atreides family instead hails from the planet Caladan, the exact opposite of Arrakis in almost every way. It is a world of greenery, oceans, and rain; memories of it haunt Paul and his family throughout Dune as they struggle with the hellish conditions of Arrakis.
Dune is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, but of course that could change depending on how things play out with this coronavirus. By December, we should (SHOULD) be able to hit up the theater again, but you never know. If we see another surge in the winter, theaters might be forced to close again.
As most of you know by now, Legendary is developing an adaptation of Dune, the ridiculously popular sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert.
Denis Villeneuve is set to direct this project, and he’s going to have a lot of star power to work with.
According to a new report, Josh Brolin is the latest actor to join the cast. He will be joining stars like Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem. Sources say Oscar Isaac and Zendaya are currently in talks to join as well.
“Dune, considered a sci-fi literary classic, tells the complex story of a fallen noble family’s attempt to control a desert planet named Arrakis and its export, a rare spice drug, even as it is betrayed by a galactic emperor.”
The script for this adaptation was written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. No word on a release date, but we will keep you posted.
If you want more Brolin right now, catch him in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which is scheduled to be released April 26, 2019.
