sun

Believe it or not, this upcoming Minecraft film has managed to get even weirder. The makers of Minecraft announced yesterday that Rob McElhenney has been hired to direct the Minecraft movie currently being developed by Warner Bros.

Most of you know Rob from the FX/FXX series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And if you have watched the show, then you know there is nothing that screams, “MINECRAFT!” We are not sure how or why Rob was hired to direct this new film, but we can tell you that our interest in the movie has skyrocketed.

After the news was announced, Rob sent out the tweet you see below…

The strange part has already been covered. Some of you may remember the Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy was originally attached to the project. And for those wondering, Mr. McElhenney does have some directing experience. He’s directed several episodes of It’s Always Sunny, and even directed the FX pilot Pariah.

He hasn’t directed a feature film, but that will change soon, even if this Minecraft project doesn’t work out. The 38-year-old recently closed a deal at Legendary Pictures to make his feature directional debut on his family action-adventure movie, Figment. The film is reportedly about an “imaginative boy and his family who are thrown for a loop when their greatest fears come to life.”

We’ll keep you posted on both projects.

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Director Will Not Be Returning For The Sequel!

dak

The good news for you Fifty Shades of Grey fans? There will be a sequel, and Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will be returning.

The bad news? You just lost your director. Sam Taylor-Johnson has officially announced that she will not be returning for Fifty Shades Darker. The first film was apparently dark enough for her.

Check out her official statement below…

“Directing Fifty Shades Of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.”

Of course, she didn’t mention the rumors going around. Sources say Taylor-Johnson was never going to direct the second film, due to creative clashes with E.L. James. It’s being reported that James has demanded to write the sequel, which didn’t sit well with Taylor-Johnson and Kelly Marcel, the writer behind the first movie.

Production on the sequel isn’t scheduled to start until next year, so Universal has more than enough time to find a new director. We’ll see what happens. It will be interesting to see who takes on this monster.

Bradley Cooper Wants To Direct Beyonce In ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

bradd

One of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood wants to team up with one of the biggest pop stars in the world. We all know Bradley Cooper has been wanting to make his feature directorial debut, and it looks like he might have found the perfect project.

According to Deadline, the American Sniper actor is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to direct the remake of A Star Is Born. He also wants to star in the film, and he wants Beyonce to join the project as the female lead.

Originally, Clint Eastwood was going to direct the film, but he seemed to be a little frustrated with the casting demands.

He talked with The Hollywood Reporter recently about the project…

“But the problem at the beginning [was] they were more infatuated with just the idea of the casting. They were talking about having Beyoncé in it, and she was very popular, but she also is very active and it’s hard to get a time scheduled, so we never could get that worked out.”

Obviously things have changed in just a few weeks. Eastwood is now out and Bradley Cooper has stepped in. What hasn’t changed is the studio demanding Beyonce, but as Eastwood mentioned, she’s a busy lady.

It’ll be interesting to see if they can sign her to a deal. A Star Is Born was first directed by William Wellman in 1937. And in 1954, the film became a huge hit with the musical version starring James Mason and Judy Garland. The latest version of the movie was released in 1976. It received poor reviews, but it did take home the award for Best Original Song.

We will keep you updated.

‘The Strangers 2’ Finally Happening? New Director And Screenwriter Hired For Project

strang

It’s been seven years since Liv Tyler starred in the home invasion thriller The Strangers. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but it was loved by horror fans all around the world. In fact, many fans were begging for a sequel.

They needed more!

And it looked like they were going to get more on several different occasions. Production on The Strangers 2 has started and stopped more times than a mailman in the suburbs. However, it now looks like things are finally moving again.

Relativity Studios has hired Marcel Langenegger (Deception) to direct the sequel. He will be working with a fresh script from Ben Ketai. According to multiple reports, the sequel will follow around a family preparing to send their daughter off to boarding school. Before sending the troubled teen away, they decide to take a family trip to a trailer park owned by their uncle.

Once they arrive, they find their Aunt and Uncle murdered inside their mobile home. Not much else is known about the project. We’re not sure if Tyler’s character will return or not. In an interview with Collider back in 2011, she talked about the possibility of a sequel. She mentioned that she had read a script by Bryan Bertino, “I’m not really in it. It’s not about me.” She said at the time.

But like we mentioned, that was several years and several screenplays ago. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more information. Keep your fingers crossed! Hopefully things will stay on track this time.

Star Trek 3 Finds New Director, Get The Details Inside!

tree

We learned early this month that director Roberto Orci was pulling out of the third Star Trek film. The news surprised many fans, and rumors started to swirl around the internet. Several big names were dropped in the Star Trek bucket, but only one director emerged as the clear winner.

Paramount Pictures announced yesterday that Justin Lin will direct Star Trek 3. Most of you know Lin’s name from the Fast & Furious franchise. He was the director behind four of the Fast & Furious films, and many people credit him with bringing the franchise back to life.

According to the reports, Lin will use the script written by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne. That’s a good sign for the fans out there who were worried Lin may come in and change everything. Yeah, it’s true that the Fast & Furious series relies heavily on insane action sequences; however, Lin is an extremely intelligent director. This is a fantastic opportunity for him.

And he will have big shoes to fill. The first two Star Trek films were directed by J.J. Abrams, and the most recent film in the franchise took home $467.4 million worldwide, which was almost a $100 million jump from the first movie back in 2009.

Paramount will be hoping Lin can continue the trend.

REPORT: ‘Breaking Bad’ Director Michelle MacLaren In Talks To Direct ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie

She directed 11 of Breaking Bad’s 62 episodes (more than any other director), she directed three episodes of The Walking Dead and four episodes of Game of Thrones. And now it looks like Michelle MacLaren is ready to make her big-screen debut with the 2017 Wonder Woman film.

According to a report from Variety, MacLaren is in serious talks with Warner Bros. Pictures. We do know they were searching for a female director to take on the first modern female superhero film, so this report does seem to make a lot of sense. MacLaren is extremely talented, there is no question about that. Just go watch the ‘One Minute‘ episode from Breaking Bad’s third season. That’s all the evidence you need.

Aside from the release date (June 23, 2017), the producer Charles Roven and Gal Gadot playing the lead role, not much else is known about this Wonder Woman movie. We did hear one report claiming it would follow Captain American: The First Avenger and be a period piece; however, fans don’t seem thrilled with that idea.

We’ll see what happens. As we mentioned above, the film won’t even be released until 2017. What do you think? Is MacLaren a good choice?
