Jason Momoa And Dave Bautista’s Buddy Cop Movie Is Being Developed With MGM

MGM is about to close a deal for an untitled buddy comedy action pitch, which will star Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista. Apparently, there was a bidding war and MGM has come out on top.

The two stars pitched the movie all over town this past week and apparently impressed a lot of people.

The film came from an original idea from Momoa, Bautista and Tropper. The studio will develop it, but the principals have made rich deals that kick in when the picture goes into production. Jeff Fierson is producing.

As mentioned above, Jonathan Tropper wrote the script. He’s perhaps best known for writing the New York Times bestselling novel, This Is Where I Leave You. He also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation, which starred Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda and Adam Driver.

So what is this buddy action comedy about?

Essentially, the pitch calls for the duo to play brothers in a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy cop comedy likely to shoot in Hawaii.

Bautista got the ball rolling on this film by tweeting out the following back in August…

Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go…Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.

Damn. Is it really that easy? Because I got some ideas too.

Dave Bautista Joining Director Brad Peyton In Upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Universe’s Most Wanted’

Dwayne Johnson is the best known pro wrestler-turned actor, but Dave Bautista is doing his best to follow in his footsteps. The 51-year-old has starred in a handful of movies, including The Guardians of the Galaxy, franchise.

And now, he’s joining the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Universe’s Most Wanted. He will be teaming up with director Brad Peyton, who previously worked with Johnson on the 2018 film, Rampage.

This new film is about a small town’s fight to save the world after a space ship carrying the universe’s most wanted criminals crash lands in their backyard.

Honestly, I’m all about that premise. I’m sold. That sounds like a truly entertaining film. Hopefully there is a good amount of humor thrown in as well, and not just straight silly action.

Peyton will direct and produce via his production company ASAP Entertainment, along with ASAP’s Jeff Fierson, from a script by F. Scott Frazier (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) and Jimmy Loweree. Bautista, who is onboard to star, will also produce via his production company Dream Bros Entertainment, along with Dream Bros’ Jonathan Meisner.

The movie is hoping to start production in the Spring of 2021, COVID-19 willing.

Watch The First Trailer For ‘Stuber’ Starring Kumail Nanjiani And Dave Bautista

Last week we wrote about both Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista separately. Now we’re writing about them together.

The two actors star in the trailer for the action-comedy Stuber, which was directed by ‘Goon‘ director, Michael Dowse. The movie follows an Uber driver named Stu (of course) who picks up an LAPD officer in the middle of a hunt for a murderer.

I must say, the trailer shows some promise. It could be another low-budget comedy hit. We say another because last year was pretty good in the comedy department with Game Night, Blockers and even Tag.

In addition to Bautista and Nanjiani, this movie also stars Natalie Morales and Karen Gillan.

Check out the trailer below. Stuber will hit theaters July 12, 2019.

Watch Dave Bautista Star In Trailer For ‘My Spy’

Just like Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, Dave Bautista has successfully transitioned from professional wrestler to professional actor. He showed people his skills in Guardians of the Galaxy, and has continued to surprise people with his character work.

Now he’s getting a starring role in the family comedy, My Spy. In the movie, he plays a tough CIA agent who finally “meets his match in a pint-sized girl” played by Chloe Coleman.

The movie was written by Jon and Erich Hoeber, who just recently wrote the shark attack film ‘The Meg‘ which earned a shocking $500 million at the box office.

We’ll see how this film performs at the box office when it hits theaters later this year.

Check out the trailer below…

Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana And Chris Pratt Show Strong Support For James Gunn After He Was Fired From ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

We left you last week by informing you that James Gunn had been removed from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3‘ after tweets he posted 10 years ago resurfaced. In the tweets, he joked about rape, 9/11, AIDS, and several other controversial subjects.

When the tweets went viral last week, Disney decided to remove him from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, which was quite shocking because he directed the original film and its sequel.

The stars of the franchise, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista appear to be putting their support behind Gunn.

Bautista was the first star to speak out. He sent out the tweet you see below on Friday…

Saldana and Pratt didn’t speak out until Sunday, and they weren’t quite as obvious with their support as Bautista, but it’s clear to see they still love and respect Gunn.

Another star from the franchise, Michael Rooker, took things to a new level. He announced that he was quitting Twitter because he’s tired of all the bullsh*t.

“This account will be inactive after today. We’re very tired & upset over the ongoing BULLS–T… neither I nor my rep will use Twitter again. Twitter sucks and I want nothing to do with it. Thank you to all who gave kind words & support. See you on Instagram.”

Damn. I guess that’s one way to show your frustration.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – Looks like Formula has been untouched. Thank God. (Video Trailer)

James Gunn released the trailer today at Comic Con Experience 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil and it’s already racked up 1.4 million views in less than 24 hours.   At least from the feel of the Trailer, it appears that the formula that made Vol 1 a surprising success has been virtually untouched for Volume 2. This is refreshing as we know all too well how Hollywood likes to make things “new and improved”.

The cast appears to be left intact with Chis Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Baby Groot.

Besides the same witty one liners and 70’s classic rock, it looks as if Baby Groot is stepping up; which is good for us but maybe bad for the Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5, 2017.  Watch the trailer!

‘Kickboxer: Vengeance’ Official Trailer – Not Too Bad for a 55 Year Old Van Damme

kickboxer-cb1

I’m not a huge fan of remakes…or at least 10 years ago I wasn’t.  It appears everything is a remake now, so if I ever wanted to go to the movies to see anything, remakes are something that I needed to get over. Real quick.

“Kickboxer Vengeance” is being called a “reboot”.   It’s the same premise as the original, but just a little different.  Now don’t confuse “Kickboxer” with “Bloodsport”.  They both stared Van Damme however “Bloodsport” went more mainstream.

kickboxernew

In the original “Kickboxer” film, the main character had to learn Muay Thai to avenge his brother’s death.  In “Kick Boxer Vengeance”, you have exactly the same scenario.  The good part is the trainer is now a 55 year old Jean Claude Van Damme, who is still in great shape (unlike Steven Segal).

In short, brother gets killed, remaining brother gets trained by brother’s mentor, goes to Thailand to kick butt against a bad ass villain, master foe name Tong Po.  That’s all the plot I really need.  Let’s face it, we came for the fight scenes.

Directed by John Stockwell, Alain Moussi has the starring role and 6’6” David Bautista is our villain.  The movie is set for a US release of September 2, 2016.

Watch: Dave Bautista And Chris Pratt’s Screen Test For ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Is Hilarious

pra

If you have watched Guardians of the Galaxy, then you know some of the funniest scenes involved Dave Bautista’s character and Chris Pratt’s character. In the previously unreleased footage you see below, Pratt and Bautista are screen-testing for the movie.

In this scene, Star-Lord is trying to convince Drax not to kill Zoe Saldana’s character, Gamora. And if you remember in the film, Drax doesn’t really seem to understand sarcasm or symbolism. He’s extremely literal, which creates some truly hilarious moments.

Another great thing about this clip is that you get to see Pratt’s great improvisational skills. The years he spent working with comedy greats like Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman on Parks & Rec obviously paid off. Although, maybe Amy and Nick were the ones learning from Pratt. If you’ve seen the hilarious bloopers from the show, then you know Pratt was responsible for 99% of them.

The screen test featuring Pratt will be included in the limited edition Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection, which will be available to purchase on Tuesday, Dec. 8. You can click here for more information.

Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy – A Dizzying Array of Alliances and Enemies, but all together it Works

guardians-of-the-galaxy-team-2

Guardians of the Galaxy is currently sitting at number one at the box office and has earned an astonishing $94 million so far. It’s also managing to do pretty good with critics. So what is it about Guardians that is earning it such accolades?

This is another comic book adaptation from Marvel. In Guardians, adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finds himself the object of a universe wide bounty hunt, after he swipes a magic orb. Main bad guy Ronan (Lee Pace) has plans to control the universe with said orb and will stop at nothing to get it back. To escape Ronan, Quill teams up with Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saladana) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (David Baustida).

I was a little surprised that Disney chose to go with Guardians. While I might be familiar with the series, I doubt most non-comic readers are. These are not the familiar and comforting characters that spurned action figures and Saturday morning cartoons, so choosing to make a movie out of them seems like a big risk.

Luckily, it paid off. This is a movie that does not take itself too seriously. Quill, the main character, is a bit of a bumbling egotist who brings back shades of Hans Solo. One clever part to the movie is the ever present mix tape that Quill listens to on an old school Walkman, playing music that shouldn’t fit the scenes, but does. It’s possibly the strangest soundtrack I’ve ever heard, but it works.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora was a great choice, possibly because this is a woman who is used to wearing full body make-up. This time around she’s all green instead of all blue and she’s completely fantastic. Gamora wasn’t quite as dimensional as her role in Avatar, but she still manages to fit the part seamlessly.

I question why it was necessary to pay Vin Diesel’s likely astronomical price tag to play the part of Groot. Groot literally only says three words the entire movie. “I am Groot.” This is a guy who got $15 million for The Fast Five, so I’m curious as to how much it cost Guardians producers to get him to say the same three words over and over again.

The battle scenes are engaging and clever and no characters are really one dimensional, like you might find in other superhero movies. There is a lot going on, a ton of different locations, and a dizzying array of alliances and enemies, but all together it works.

michael-rooker-yondu

You’ll find a lot more humor in Guardians than you will in most superhero movies. There are a few heart wrenching moments as well. The first scene in the movie starts with a cancer stricken mother, dying in a hospital bed. That scene might be a bit much for younger viewers, but the movie really picks up from there.

Disney took a huge risk with this movie and it paid off. If you’re sick of the same old superheroes, then Guardians of the Galaxy will give you something new. These obscure anti-heroes really shine when brought to the big screen and this is a movie that is absolutely worth the watch.
