The Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth has reportedly signed on to star in the upcoming action-comedy New York Will Eat You Alive.
The film is based on the digital comic Zombie Brother, which was incredibly successful in China. Studios are jumping all over this story.
The film shifts the original setting to New York City, following a Chinese lead character who leads his fellows in a fight with zombies to stay alive. Alex Rubens (Community) and Ryan Engle (Rampage) have written the script.
No word on what role Firth will be playing, but we do know it’s a starring role.
The comic book is said to have over 28 billion views, while its animated series has amassed more than 3.7 billion views across its first two seasons. The franchise has also been adapted into a stage play.
It’s a popular franchise, and the studio is hoping the story connects on the big screen as well.
Firth is an incredible actor, and he’s surprisingly comedic as well, so an action-comedy is right in his wheelhouse (see Kingsman franchise)
No word on a potential release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
StudioCanal has delighted movie fans with the release of the first trailer for ‘Supernova‘ starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci.
The romantic drama, written and directed by Harry Macqueen, stars Firth and Tucci as a longtime couple who decide to take an RV trip across England following an early-onset dementia diagnosis for Tucci’s character.
Sam and Tusker’s road trip will be a test for them as they grapple with Tusker’s diagnosis individually and as a united front.
The movie will premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival later this week. It’ll then be screened at the BFI London Film Festival in October. As of right now, the movie has not found distribution in the U.S., but that will almost certainly change.
It’s hard to imagine a movie starring Firth and Tucci not releasing in the U.S. at some point. Those are two pretty big stars. Plus, the movie looks really solid.
When ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service‘ was released back in early 2015, it kinda surprised everyone. It wasn’t expected to be a huge hit, but for some reason the audience really connected with it.
It grossed over $414 million worldwide, which made the director Matthew Vaughn extremely happy. It was his most commercially successful film ever. Even the critics enjoyed the spy-action comedy. It currently sits at a comfortable 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.
And with all that success (especially the delicious $414 million total) you had to know there was going to be a sequel.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle released its first trailer this week, and it was definitely worth the wait. It’s hard to make a great trailer, but the studio nailed it with this one.
Both Taron Egerton and (surprisingly) Colin Firth have returned for this sequel. They are joined by Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore and Halle Berry.
You can check out the official synopsis and trailer below. It’s scheduled to hit theaters September 22, 2017.
“With their headquarters destroyed and the world held hostage, members of Kingsman find new allies when they discover a spy organization in the United States known as Statesman. In an adventure that tests their strength and wits, the elite secret agents from both sides of the pond band together to battle a ruthless enemy and save the day, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.”
Not only has it been 11 years since the last Bridget Jones movie, but it’s also been several years since Renée Zellweger has hit the big screen. According to her IMDb page her last film was 2010’s My Own Love Song with Forest Whitaker.
But now it looks like the 46-year-old actress is ready to make a comeback. She has three movies currently in production, a thriller with Keanu Reeves, a drama with Jon Voight, and of course the third installment of the Bridget Jones movie series.
It’s something that many fans never thought would actually happen. The second Bridget Jones film was released back in 2004. This third film, Bridget Jones’s Baby, had been in development for years. It was going to happen, then it wasn’t going to happen, and that cycle just repeated over and over again.
Thankfully, everything finally came together and now they’re filming the movie…right now! Universal Pictures UK sent out a tweet on October 2 to announce filming had started. The first official photo from the movie was released two weeks ago on the Facebook page of the production company Working Title Films.
Exciting stuff, right? You bet. And no one is more excited than Zellweger. She spoke with E! News recently to talk about how filming has been going so far…
“I’m having a good time. It’s really a nice reunion with old friends. And it’s always wonderful to be back in London and I love this character so it’s been a real treat to get to revisit it again.”
Fans of the series will be happy to know Colin Firth has returned for the third movie. Hugh Grant will not be returning, but Patrick Dempsey has landed a mystery role in the movie.
Details on this third film are like Heidi Klum‘s sense of humor: they’re incredibly hard to find. According to PEOPLE, this upcoming movie will “fill the gap between Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Helen Fielding‘s 2013 book Mad About The Boy.”
We’ll keep you posted. Bridget Jones’s Baby is scheduled for a September 2016 release.
