‘Toy Story 4’ Opens To $118 Million, But It’s Still A Disappointment?

Toy Story 4 hit theaters this past weekend and it obviously dominated the box office. It made $118 million during its opening weekend, which is obviously a strong number. Not many films break that $100 million mark during their opening weekend.

But still, Disney has to be a little disappointed because most projections had the movie bringing in at least $140 million.

More recently, last year Pixar’s ‘Incredibles 2’ opened to $182 million. Yes, it had the benefit of Father’s Day to boost it, but how much additional revenue did that provide? ‘Incredibles 2’ also faced competition from a very strong second weekend of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom;’ there was nothing remotely as competitive for ‘Toy Story 4.’

The good news for Toy Story 4 is that it’s performing extremely well internationally. In total it’s already made close to $250 million worldwide.

So yeah, while they might be a little disappointed not reaching the $140 million mark domestically, overall it was a victory.

Meanwhile, ‘Child’s Play‘ also opened this past weekend and got surprisingly decent reviews from critics and the general audience.

Sadly the positive word of mouth didn’t spread fast enough and it made just $14 million. It’s not a terrible number, considering the budget was just $12 million, but it’s still a bit disappointing.

There seems to be a trend of disappointment this summer at the box office. Will it turn around with Lion King next month?

New Poster For ‘Child’s Play’ Appears To Show Toy Story’s Woody Being Murdered By Chucky

Movie posters are typically hit-or-miss, and lately it feels like there have been a lot of misses.

But we finally got a hit this week, thanks to the brilliant marketing team behind the Chucky reboot film, Child’s Play. They released a poster on their social media accounts on Tuesday and it appears to show Chucky walking out of the frame, leaving behind a doll that looks a lot like Woody from Toy Story.

Check out the poster for Toy Story 4 and the new poster for Child’s Play side-by-side…

As you can see, the only thing they changed was Woody’s shirt color, most likely because they wanted to avoid a potential lawsuit from Disney.

It’s a brilliant idea for a poster, and honestly it kinda makes me want some weird Toy Story/Child’s Play crossover film. Obviously that’s never going to happen though.

Child’s Play hits theaters June 21…the same day as Toy Story 4.

Watch The Brand New Trailer For ‘Child’s Play’

Are you ready for another reboot? YOU BETTER BE, ‘CAUSE CHUCKY IS COMING FOR YOU!

Orion released a new trailer for the upcoming reboot of the Child’s Play slasher film franchise. In this trailer, we finally hear Chucky’s voice, which is a pretty big deal because Star Wars legend Mark Hamill is voicing the character.

In addition to Hamill, this movie also stars Aubrey Plaza (who plays a mother…we getting old!), Gabriel Bateman and Brian Tyree Henry.

A previously released trailer revealed that Chucky is a smart-toy of sorts called the Buddi doll in the re-imagining, and this latest clip shows just how dangerous the internet of things can be. Long gone are the days of the Satanic panic, when Chucky was possessed by a serial killer thanks to voodoo magic. Now, Orion Pictures are capitalizing on the fear that the technology linking our ever-more-connected world will turn against us.

Child’s Play will hit theaters June 21, 2019. Check out the latest trailer below…

Watch Out! Chucky Is Back In First Trailer For ‘Child’s Play’

Childs play is perhaps one of Drake’s best songs. It’s also the name of a slasher film franchise led by a creepy a** doll named Chucky. Child’s Play was released back in 1988 and it ended up bringing home over $44 million at the box office against a budget of just $9 million.

The success of the first film (mixed with a cult following) helped produce six sequels and lots of merchandise. And now, in 2019, they’re set to release a remake of the film.

This new version of the film features Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman and ‘Atlanta‘ star Brian Tyree Henry. This installment will be the first to be made without series creator Don Mancini.

And it’s safe to say he was a little disappointed…

“Obviously my feelings were hurt. You know, I had just done two movies…forgive me if I sound defensive, [they] were both at 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Even though they didn’t get theatrical releases, they were well regarded. And I did create the character and nurture the franchise for three f**king decades.”

Whoa. In any event, Child’s Play will hit theaters across the country June 21, 2019. Check out the trailer below…
