Barack Obama Names His Favorite Movies/TV Shows of 2020

It’s that time of the year again. Former president Barack Obama jumped on Twitter to reveal his favorite movies/tv shows of 2020.

And while the movie list may not be as impressive this year, due to most films being delayed, he still managed to put together a good list.

In the TV category, he mentioned outstanding shows like Better Call Saul, The Good Lord Bird, The Good Place and The Queen’s Gambit. All highly recommended, by the way.

On the film side, he had to dig deeper. Some of the movies on his list haven’t even been released yet, but we’re assuming he got early access to them.

For instance, he named the Frances McDormand-starring film ‘Nomadland‘ which has been getting lots of Oscar buzz. Unfortunately, the film won’t be released until February for us normal folks.

He also named the upcoming Pixar film ‘Soul‘ which won’t hit Disney+ until Christmas day. It’s worth noting, critics are also loving this film, and it certainly has a shot to win Best Animated Film.

Additionally, he gave some love to his own production company by naming the documentary ‘Crimp Camp‘ as one of his favorites. It was produced by the Obamas’ company Higher Ground and is available to watch on Netflix.

OFFICIAL TRAILER: Barry (2016) – The Trailer is Not the Story I Would Expect; It’s Actually Better

barry_00267r-850x560

I’m not a huge fan of Biopics while the person is still doing what they are famous for doing.  However, this one is different because it focuses on Obama’s early years, before he decided to run for POTUS.

The story takes place primarily in New York in the early 80’s during Obama’s years at Columbia.  Is not so much about Obama, but a biracial man trying to fit into a world that is black or white.  This is 21 year old Barack, and chain smoking, slightly awkward, passionate Barack.  He has a white girlfriend, a not so confident walk (as opposed to the strut we are used to) and plays pick-up basketball.  This is far from the leader of the free world.  This isn’t a story about the Obama we know, but the Obama that became the Obama that we know.

The lead is played by a virtually unknown actor from Australia named Devon Terrell.  He trained with famed Broadway dialect and vocal coach Charlotte Fleck to balance Obama’s accent, walking the line between authentic but not comedic.  As you can see in the trailer, he does a great job.

Directed by Vikram Gandhi, the film received great reviews at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016 and I can’t wait.  Here is the Trailer!

Barack Obama And Michelle Obama Reveal Their Favorite Films Of 2015

mart

Barack Obama might be the worst person in the world according to your 85-year-old Grandfather from South Florida. I’m not here to change your mind on Obama’s record as president; however, I will defend his wonderful taste in the arts.

Not only does Obama listen to some great music, but we know from last year that he also enjoys watching fantastic movies. If you remember our post from December 2014, Obama revealed his favorite film of the year was Richard Linklater’s coming-of-age story, Boyhood. It was also my favorite film of 2014, which means the Prez and I would obviously make great best friends.

Sadly, we didn’t match this year. Obama’s favorite film of 2015 was The Martian, which was an incredible movie, but I don’t believe it was the best. At least this pick proves Obama’s tastes are varied, because Boyhood and The Martian are two completely different movies.

What did Michelle Obama pick as her favorite film? Pixar’s Inside Out. It scored a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s currently the favorite to take home the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature. The Obama family should start a movie review site after this whole president thing is over.

Quentin Tarantino In New Interview: “I Don’t Feel In Competition With Anybody Anymore”

Almost everyone loves his movies, but not everyone loves him. Quentin Tarantino doesn’t hold back in film and he doesn’t hold back during interviews. The 52-year-old director has never been shy about sharing his opinions. His interviews are always incredibly entertaining.

And his latest interview with Vulture just might be one of his best. The lengthy interview, which features conversations from two different meetings, covers several topics including television, Barack Obama and Jay Z songs.

During the interview, he was asked who he sees as his biggest competition right now…

This might come across as egotistical, but I don’t really feel in competition with anybody anymore. I’m in competition with myself.

And then he added this magical quote. I feel like you could take the movie titles out of this quote and still know exactly who said it.

“The last time that I felt competitive was when I was doing Kill Bill and my competition was The Matrix Reloaded. That was the sword of Damocles hanging over our heads. I saw Matrix Reloaded at the Chinese Theatre the day it opened, and I walked out of the cinema singing that Jay Z song: “S-dot-Carter / Y’all must try harder / Competition is nada.” I was like, Bring it the f–k on. I was worried about that? Ho-ly sh-t.”

It’s easy to see why some people hate the guy. I think he’s hilarious and talented, and it’s not like he’s talking out of his butt. His career in film speaks for itself.

He also talked about Barack Obama in the interview, saying, “I think he’s fantastic. He’s my favorite president, hands down, of my lifetime. He’s been awesome this past year.” You can read the full interview by clicking this link. It’s worth it. Read it during your lunch break or something.

Quentin’s latest film, The Hateful Eight, opens in theaters December 25, 2015.

President Obama Reveals His Favorite Movie Of 2014

boo

2014 was filled with some outstanding films. There are great movies being released every single year, but it seemed like this year had something special. I could sit here and list all my favorites, but that’s not why you clicked on this post. You came here to find out Barack Obama’s favorite movie of the year.

The answer? Richard Linklater’s brilliant coming-of-age story, Boyhood. He told People magazine, “Boyhood was a great movie. That, I think, was my favorite movie this year.”

Obviously we don’t know how many movies he actually had time to watch this year; however, it’s clear he made a fabulous choice. Anyone who still hasn’t seen the film, I demand that you watch it and love it just as much as I did.

Of course, one of the reasons it might be Obama’s favorite film is because Ethan Hawke’s character is a huge supporter of Obama. There is even a scene where he has his kids help him put up Obama/Biden signs. During the process, a McCain/Palin sign gets vandalized.

Michelle Obama was also asked about the movies of 2014, but she wasn’t handing out any compliments. Instead, she decided to take a shot at David Fincher’s adaption of Gillian Flynn’s novel, Gone Girl.

“I’ve read others [since, but] I read Gone Girl a couple summers ago, which is one of my favorites. The book is much better than the movie.”

Damn. She had to throw the “much” in there? Really? That’s tough. But we’re sure Fincher won’t be losing any sleep over the diss. His film scored four Golden Globe Award nominations, including one for Best Director.
