Watch Alicia Vikander In The First Trailer For ‘Blue Bayou’

Alicia Vikander first entered my radar back in 2014 when she starred in the great sci-fi thriller, Ex Machina. She gave an incredible performance in the film, and ever since then whenever I see her name in a movie, I pay attention.

This is why we’re talking about the first trailer for Blue Bayou. The movie comes from the mind of Justin Chon. Not only did he write/direct this project, he also stars alongside Vikander in it.

Focus Features released the official synopsis for the film, which you can read below:

From award-winning writer/director Justin Chon, Blue Bayou is the moving and timely story of a uniquely American family fighting for their future. Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean adoptee raised in a small town in the Louisiana bayou, is married to the love of his life Kathy (Alicia Vikander) and stepdad to their beloved daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home.

It’s said to be a “partly” autobiographical tale, which makes the story that much more interesting.

Focus Features got the rights to this movie after the 2020 Cannes virtual market. In addition to Vikander and Chon, this movie stars ‘Halt and Catch Fire‘ star Mark O’Brien and ‘The OA‘ star Emory Cohen.

Check out the trailer below. Blue Bayou is set to hit theaters September 17, 2021. It looks really good.

Watch Alicia Vikander In The First Official Trailer For ‘Tomb Raider’

Are you ready for Lara Croft on the big screen? Alicia Vikander stars as Croft in the first official trailer for Tomb Raider. In the trailer, Croft is told, “Your father’s gone. You can pick up where he left off. I see so much of him in you.”

The trailer is filled with action, which should be enough to get fans excited for this movie. We all know movies based on video games don’t perform that well, but maybe this will be the exception. After all, it’s been nearly 17 years since Angelina Jolie starred in the original Tomb Raider. The movie did not sit well with critics, but it did take home over $270 million at the box office.

This reboot starring Vikander is directed by Roar Uthaug based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of response this movie gets from critics. Vikander is an award-winning actress who routinely receives praise from critics. Will this be her first mistake?

Watch the trailer below. This movie will hit theaters March 16, 2018.

We Got The First Photos Of Alicia Vikander As Lara Croft In The Upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ Film

All you ‘Tomb Raider‘ fans out there better be excited for this one. The fine folks at Warner Bros. have revealed the first look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.

The photos, first shared by Vanity Fair, show the actress wearing those famous cargo pants and tank top on an island off the coast of Japan. This updated version of the franchise will reportedly go in a completely different direction than the original Tomb Raider film.

This movie will focus on Croft’s origins and her first mission as an archaeologist. Director Roar Uthaug told GQ that this film will be entirely different than the 2001 version starring Angelina Jolie

“As an origin story, this movie will introduce Lara as a young woman who hasn’t yet found her way and her place in the world; a young woman with great spirit and potential. We follow her struggles and her journey toward becoming the person she was meant to be and earning the role of ‘Tomb Raider.’”

Sounds interesting. It’s scheduled to hit theaters March 16, 2018, so we still have a solid year to wait. We’ll be patiently waiting for the first trailer.

The Great Alicia Vikander Will Star As Lara Croft In The New ‘Tomb Raider’ Film!

Following in the footsteps of a huge name like Angelina Jolie won’t be easy, but we’re sure Alicia Vikander can handle the pressure. The 27-year-old actress who has starred in hit movies like Ex Machina and The Danish Girl has officially signed on to star in Tomb Raider for MGM, Warner Bros.

She will play Lara Croft in the film, which will reportedly tell a story from Croft’s younger days when she was still untested and just trying to survive her first adventure.

There were several big names trying to land the role. Daisy Ridley, Cara Delevigne and Emilia Clarke were all rumored to join the project at one point. But it looks like the studio felt Vikander was the best fit. Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is scheduled to direct the film. It’s expected to hit theaters in late 2017.

This just adds to Vikander’s busy schedule. She recently finished filming on the latest Jason Bourne movie with Matt Damon, and she’s currently working with James McAvoy on the Wim Wenders-directed film Submergence.

A quick search around the web confirms that fans are excited about this casting decision. She’s a great actress and it’ll be interesting to see how she handles the physically demanding role. She’ll probably have to put on some muscle.

Movie Review: The Man from Uncle – A Fun Exciting Romp That Redefines The Espionage Movie

hero_TheManFromUNCLE_2015_1 - 25AUG2015

I have to admit I was a bit worried when I saw the Man from U.N.C.L.E. coming so soon on the heels of a Mission Impossible release. Much like Mission Impossible. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a spy movie adapted from a popular TV show. Unlike Mission Impossible, I never saw the show. If I had, I probably would have noticed how truly different the two films are.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is centered around the CIA in the early 60s. It has the bright, playful technicolor feel that was so popular in the 60s, setting it off as different from the beginning. Henry Cavill plays Napoleon Solo, a former master-thief blackmailed by the CIA (represented by a nasty-raspy Jared Harris) into becoming a secret agent. Cavill is a debonair womanizer who wears thousand dollar suits and delivers smart aleck lines with perfect timing. He’s a play on old school James Bond, but with a bit less tension. He’s partnered up with Illya Kuryakin, a former KGB agent who has flipped sides in order to fight a nuclear armed organization.

The characters were caricatures but in this movie, that’s a good thing. The whole thing has a bit of a cartoony feel and it’s pretty clear that Guy Richie was having a lot of fun playing with the clichés. It’s a movie that celebrates the cliché to the highest order, making it clear that’s it’s laughing at itself.

This is a hard thing to pull off, but they managed to do so pretty cleanly. The movie hits just about every major cliché an action franchise can, from love interest in trouble, to mismatched buddy comedy, to evil genius bent on world domination. This is all done in a tongue in cheek style that tells you the makers knew exactly what they were doing and still managed to give it a newer twist.

Much of that had to do with the talent of the leads, both of which were played true to character. While I think the female lead could have been done better, the two males pretty much define the word “mismatched”. It’s like the odd couple joined the CIA.

I do have to say this is a clear attempt to create a new franchise, and I really don’t think that’s necessary. While a good movie, the gimmick will feel tired a second time around. It’s a joke that’s hilarious the first time you heard it, but not so great the second.

That’s not to say that this movie isn’t worth the watch. It’s a fun exciting romp that redefines the espionage movie and makes fun of the genre at the same time. The retro 60s feel added something special to the movie and the clever use of color gave this movie a vibrant, stylish feel.

It’s a fun movie, with great characters and an easy to follow premise. While it’s clearly been done and timed in order to capitalize on the success of the Mission Impossible franchise, it doesn’t feel like the same thing. It’s a new twist on an old genre.
