What do Leonardo DiCaprio and Julianne Moore have in common? They both have been nominated for an Oscar four times, and each time they have failed to take home the award. Moore was actually nominated twice in 2002 for The Hours and Far from Heaven; however, she still went home empty-handed.
But could her performance in the upcoming film Still Alice finally earn her an Oscar? It’s certainly possible. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and critics have been gushing over her performance.
Julianne Moore plays a cognitive psychologist, who is trying to deal with the effects of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Moore’s character struggles to balance all aspects of life, including her marriage to her husband John Howland (Alec Baldwin). Kristen Stewart, Hunter Parrish and Kate Bosworth co-star.
Still Alice had a limited release last weekend, to qualify for the Oscars. The wider theatrical release is scheduled for January 16, 2015. As someone who has lost a grandparent to Alzheimer’s disease, I will definitely be interested in checking this film out next month.
