You probably know John Boyega from his work in the recent ‘Star Wars‘ films, but you’re about to know him from him a lot more.
The 27-year-old star just signed a pretty important deal through his UpperRoom Productions with Netflix. His production company will work with Netflix to develop non-English language films centered on East and West Africa.
The official release states that they will “develop film projects based on stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays and/or other elements in or around African countries.”
No word on the detail$ surrounding this deal, but the money is not important. It’s the subject matter that counts.
Boyega released the statement you see below:
I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories, and my team and I are excited to develop original material. We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.
Once again, Netflix shows how it is ahead of the game. People worried that all these other streaming services are going to take them down, but I don’t know…I’m not seeing it. They are still very strong.[mashshare]
