‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Is Set Up To Have Successful Opening Weekend At The Box Office

After a disappointing weekend at the box office last week for ‘Birds of Prey‘ Hollywood is hoping for a better result this weekend.

Paramount’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ live-action flick hits theaters this weekend, and tracking suggests it’ll bring in around $45 million, which would be more than enough to grab the top spot at the box office.

It was made on a budget north of $80 million, so it’s counting on a big opening weekend to get things off on the right track.

Sonic, a live-action and CGI hybrid, follows the world’s fastest hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), who teams up with his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) to defend the planet from the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).

The film had its Thursday night preview opening last night and made $3 million at a little over 3,000 theaters across the country.

For what it’s worth, a $3 million preview is a good sign for this movie. Last year, the latest ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ flick made $55 million during its opening weekend with a similar preview number.
