Obviously, no shark film will ever come close to touching the greatness of Jaws, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t sit back and enjoy them.
Shark thriller ‘The Meg‘ had its Thursday night opening on August 9 and it took home an impressive $4 million. That’s a great number for a movie I honestly thought might bomb.
Some people believe the movie could bring in close to $25 million this weekend, and if it does, it might just take the number one spot at the box office away from Mission: Impossible — Fallout.
As to be expected, this thriller is getting mixed reviews from critics. It currently sits at a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It has 68 fresh reviews to 65 rotten, which means the critics are truly split on this.
For those who don’t know, the movie stars Jason Statham and is based on Steve Alten’s 1997 book ‘Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror’
“The story follows efforts by scientists — played by Statham, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, and Ruby Rose — to stop a prehistoric 75-foot Megalodon shark from terrorizing a beach in China.”
