We got some bad news for all you loyal Divergent fans out there. Shailene Woodley is done with the franchise. We warned you about this back in September of last year.
The studio announced they would be releasing the final film in the franchise as a low budget TV movie, and then they would try to create a TV series around it. It was a bold plan to save a dying franchise, and Woodley made it clear she wanted no part of it.
During an interview with The Today Show last year, she told her fans this…
“Well, I mean, if it’s a movie. [laughs] They haven’t finalized any decisions, so it’s actually a moot point to talk about it now, out of respect to Lionsgate and everyone involved. I’m not exactly sure where they stand so we are kind of all in a limbo game.”
Fast forward several months later and the limbo game has come to an end. With the studio still pushing the TV movie/series idea, Woodley is officially dropping out.
She told Vanity Fair, “No. I’m not going to be on the television show,” and that was the end of that conversation.
It’s not clear what will happen from here. Now that Woodley is officially out, it seems like their best bet would be to get a fresh cast to create this TV series they have planned. Try to put some space between the series and the movies.
