The drama between Disney and James Gunn is finally settling down a bit. The studio told everyone they would not be hiring Gunn to direct the third film in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ franchise, even though the entire cast & crew want him back.
Disney obviously feels like they can’t be associated with the controversial jokes he made on Twitter 10 years ago, and you have to respect their decision on that. I mean, they are a business first, and if they feel like his tweets will hurt their brand, then they have the power to let him go.
Of course, this has left fans of the franchise in the dark. What will happen next? Will there even be a third film? Well, Sean Gunn (James Gunn’s brother) says there will be and they are still going to use the script James wrote.
Sean spoke to Tulsa World…
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3. I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”
We’ll see what happens. Production is on hold currently, but the franchise is so huge, we have to imagine they’ll want to make this film soon. Fans want/need a conclusion.
