That’s a headline I never thought I’d write, but according to a report from multiple sites, Chris Rock is currently working on rebooting the ‘Saw‘ franchise.
He’ll be teaming up with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures for a “fresh reimagining” on the next Saw film. Rock apparently wrote the story behind this movie and it’s now being adapted by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg.
Lionsgate had this to say…
When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in. Saw is one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all-time, and it’s one of Lionsgate’s most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea, and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.
Wow, okay then. I’m still a little confused. Is this really Rock’s passion project? The Saw franchise? How strange. I mean, more power to him, but who saw this coming?
By the way, this Saw reboot will reportedly hit theaters October 23, 2020.[mashshare]
