Did you think the Twilight franchise was dead? Think again. It’s been four years since the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn — Part 2, hit theaters. It took home a ridiculous $829 million at the box office, and if there were more books in the franchise, you can bet there would have been more movies to follow.
But that was the final chapter. The money train ended for Lionsgate. They did hit another home run with the Hunger Games franchise, but nothing else has really worked for them.
So what are they going to do? Create some amazing original story the world has never seen before??? No. They’re just going to bring back what worked in the past.
During an interview with ScreenDaily, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairman Patrick Wachsberger, had this to say about bringing back the Twilight franchise.
“It’s a possibility. Not a certainty but it’s a possibility. It’s about Stephenie [Meyer]. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we’re here for her.”
Of course you’re there for her. You have the card, but you need her password to unlock the money. It’s likely Meyer will return to the franchise at some point. There is still money to be made. It’s happening right now with J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. in the Harry Potter universe.
It might be several years down the road, but I’d say the chances of seeing more Twilight films are high.[mashshare]
