Sarah Paulson’s upcoming thriller ‘Run‘ is headed to Hulu. The movie, which is directed by ‘Searching‘ filmmaker Aneesh Chaganty, was supposed to release earlier this year inside theaters.
But because of the pandemic, Lionsgate pulled the release date, and instead of rescheduling a new release date, they’ve decided to sell domestic rights to Hulu.
Paulson portrays the mother of a teenage girl — played by newcomer Kiera Allen — who has been raised in total isolation. The girl’s life begins to unravel as she discovers her mother’s sinister secret.
It’s important to note that this Hulu deal is only relevant in the United States. The movie will still be released inside theaters in select international markets.
Some people may look at this as a demotion by Lionsgate, but really, it’s a smart move. ‘Run’ is a smaller film, and when theaters do reopen in the states, studios will be releasing their blockbuster films.
It’s going to be a showdown of major films, and for the first few months, smaller films like ‘Run’ will stand no chance.
So a streaming release, at least in the states, makes sense.
