Ryan Reynolds Claims The New Wolverine Film ‘Logan’ Will Be An Oscar Contender

Ryan Reynolds is drinking that Vin Diesel juice. Vin is famous for pumping up his projects to extreme levels. He predicted Best Picture Oscar nominations for Furious 7 (didn’t happen) and predicts Fast 8 will be nominated (won’t happen).

The Academy has never provided the comic book genre with any love. In the almost 90 years the Oscars have been around, a comic book film has never been nominated for Best Picture, and that’s probably not going to change anytime soon.

Which is why Ryan Reynolds needs to put down the bottle of Vin. The actor talked with Variety recently about the upcoming Deadpool sequel and this year’s Wolverine movie, Logan.

As we reported a few months back, this will be the last time we see Hugh Jackman playing the character, and they’re giving him a grand exit by doing something new with the franchise. They’re going dark. According to the director, James Mangold, no other superhero film can compare to this one:

“The real driver in all these decisions is trying to separate ourselves, in an accurate way, from the other superhero movies. We think we’re going to deliver something a little different and we want to make sure we’re selling audiences on the difference.”

Reynolds agrees with Mangold. He told Variety that the movie has the potential to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars next year.

“Logan looks like a movie that might break that glass ceiling. I know first-hand that it’s amazing. I’ve seen some of it. It’s mind-blowing. It relies a lot on character.”

We’ll see what happens, but I’m not getting my hopes up. You can check out the trailer for Logan below. It’ scheduled to be released March 3, 2017.
