Columbia Pictures has now released a movie poster to accompany the trailer for the new Robocop movie.
If you were to just look at the poster you would surely think it was the first Robcop. Nothing about it says 2014 except for the little date at the bottom. The trailer does a little bit more to get you in the mood but if you overlook the sequels, the cartoon and all the toys, the original RoboCop was the Shiz-nit. (For those wondering “The Shiz-nit” is a good thing).
The new suit seems to move things in the right direction. It’s a little more “athletic” then the first and Samuel Jackson with hair is good enough to get my movie ticket in itself. The downside I see so far is the lack of grit and grime of the first. Back in 1987 when the first was released, movies weren’t about getting as broad an audience as you can pack in the theater. It was about delivering a vision to hardcore fans. This is missed or at least in the trailer.[more…]
Maybe it’s unfair to keep comparing it to 1987, pre-Ironman days, but then it’s unfair to keep remaking everything that was once right in Hollywood.
Here is the trailer and full size poster. The movie is due out on February 7th, 2014 just in time for Valentine’s Day!
