Director Robert Eggers made his big splash in Hollywood back in 2015/2016 with the release of The Witch. The horror film was a hit with critics (scoring a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and made over $40 million at the box office against a budget of just $4 million.
Now Eggers is returning to the land of features with the upcoming “psychodrama” The Lighthouse, which stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.
‘The Lighthouse’ is shot in black and white and in an Academy aspect ratio for an unsettling, old fashioned look that only amplifies the psychodrama. Pattinson plays a man coming to take a job with another lighthouse keeper on a remote and mysterious island in New England in the 1890s.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and received rave reviews from critics.
A24 picked up the distribution rights to this film. It’s expected to hit theaters October 18, 2019.
