The internet has strong and fast reactions to almost everything, including movie trailers. People seem to think they can tell if a movie is going to be good or bad based on a one minute trailer.
Fans of Queen and Freddie Mercury have been slamming the upcoming ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ movie even though the film hasn’t even been released. They believe, based on the teaser trailer, that the film doesn’t address Freddie’s sexuality or his AIDS diagnosis.
Rami Malek, who stars as Freddie in the movie, is fighting back against the critics. He says the film does not overlook those issues…
“It’s difficult. First, let me say that I don’t think the film shies away from his sexuality or his all-consuming disease, which is obviously AIDS. I don’t know how you could avoid any of that, or if anyone would ever want to. It’s a bit absurd that anyone’s judging this from a minute trailer.
You can’t shy away from it. It was an important moment to have in the film, one that ultimately is very sad but also empowering in a way.”
It might sound silly, but I trust Malek. He’s a great actor, who really believes in the ~art~ of it all, so I highly doubt he’d take this role if it refused to dig in to the serious issues surrounding Freddie’s life.
The bigger issue is the marketing of this movie…it has not been good. The studio has dropped the ball with the promotion of this film.
We’ll just have to wait and see how good (or bad) this movie is when it’s released nationwide November 2, 2018.[mashshare]
