Last week we told you that John Krasinski’s ‘A Quiet Place‘ made over $5 million in its opening Thursday night previews, which set it up nicely to make at least $30 million during its opening weekend as the experts predicted.
Well, we’re happy to report that the horror/thriller smashed the predictions. It earned $50.3 million this past weekend in just over 3,500 theaters across the country. That’s a huge number. It’s the second highest domestic opening of the year behind ‘Black Panther.’
The budget for this movie was around $17 million, so it’s already made it back and more. A lot more. We figured the movie would perform well at the box office, thanks to the great reviews from critics and word of mouth from the general audience. I went to watch the film on Thursday night and it was incredible.
Krasinski, Emily Blunt and the young actors who played their kids in the movie did a wonderful job. It made me jump out of my seat and cry, and those aren’t things I typically do while watching a film.
If you haven’t watch A Quiet Place, I strongly suggest you do. I don’t think you’ll regret it. By the way, Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One‘ came in second at $25 million and the blockbuster comedy ‘Blockers‘ (which is surprisingly hilarious) made $21.4 million.
It was a great weekend for Hollywood.[mashshare]
