Did you hear that Quentin Tarantino might direct a ‘Star Trek‘ movie? Yeah, I must have missed the news as well. Or simply forgot about it.

But apparently, there were serious discussions going on. Back in December 2017, it was revealed that the filmmaker had pitched an original idea for a Star Trek film to producer J.J. Abrams.

The two were officially developing that idea into a potential movie that Tarantino might direct. They set Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) to write a screenplay based on Tarantino’s story while the filmmaker focused on making Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and he said he’d circle back around to Trek once Hollywood was complete.

Now that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is complete, people were asking Tarantino, “Hey. What about that Star Trek film?”

Well, it looks like he’s cooled off on it. He still thinks it’s a great story, but he no longer wants to direct it.

He told Deadline:

I think they might make that movie, but I just don’t think I’m going to direct it. It’s a good idea. They should definitely do it and I’ll be happy to come in and give them some notes on the first rough cut.

Not exactly surprising. Tarantino has said he’s only directing 10 films, and OUATIH was his ninth. So yeah, he’s not going to go out on a Star Trek film.
