‘Purge 5’ Has Its July Release Date Pushed Back

The fifth and final installment in the ‘Purge‘ franchise was scheduled to hit theaters on July 10. It was one of the few studio releases still on the schedule in July.

But now, just a little over one month away from the release, Universal Pictures has decided to delay the release indefinitely.

No word on when the new release date will be, but it could be pushed back to next summer.

For now, the only films still scheduled to open this summer are Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ (July 17), Disney’s live-action remake of ‘Mulan’ (July 24) and ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ (Aug. 14). But those dates could continue to shift if movie theaters in heavily impacted areas like New York, New Jersey and California are still closed.

Those are just the major releases though. As we reported last week, there are a few smaller films that have actually moved up their release dates to July, hoping to take advantage of the lack of competition.

We’ll see what happens. June will be an interesting month. It’ll either be a month of hope, showing you can reopen and still keep the virus somewhat contained, or it’ll be a sign we opened too early and we’ll begin another lockdown.

Let’s hope for the best.
